Got this for a bargain in Lidl (£50) and at £88 here still quite reasonable
This is a junior microscope, small and lightweight
The kit comes with a 3 (4X 10X and 40X) objectives and 2 eye pieces (5X and 16X) which when combined gives a 1000 X magnification
The biggest bonus for me is the MicrOkular (a USB web cam attachment)
Ok this is only VGA but at £88 this is not bad at all for me
The kit also has a series of slides, a brine shrimp micro hatchery including salt feed and eggs
It also has has a microtome to create thin slices of things...not very effective
Optics are reasonable
The platform is not so robust
The two light sources are handy for transmitted and reflected light microscopy
Ok all in all a good bargain especially with the webcam attachment, which is detected out of the box in Linux, allowing budget time lapse microscopy for under £100...
EDIT..4 month follow up
Ok had it now for 4 months, it remains useful. With spring here we are now able to observe tadpoles at close up, and see fascinating aspects (the gills, lateral the eye development, the heart beat, the breathing. I am using Linux, and Cheese is able to take video well. It stopped working for a while but seems to have fixed itself with a recent update...thoroughly recommend videoing this creature live...it has really stimulated made my daughter (aged 9) to hunt more creatures for investigation.
