Beautiful movie. Lovely subtle performances by Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones.
I have discovered that Felicity Jones is the Queen of movies that make my heart hurt. Loved her in 'Like Crazy' too, which I recommend if subtle, realistic, romantic dramas are your thing.
Guy Pearce is brilliant as ever, and the whole movie made me want to watch it all over again the next day, all the while hoping for a different ending.

Wonderful stuff.

This is an unusual film not in the story line (which isn't daring or new), but it turned out to be quite good overall thanks to a good cast and direction.

Plot wise it's a straight forward affair, Sophie (Felicity Jones) is a young British exchange student who moves into the family household of Keith Reynolds (Guy Pearce), they live in a small town outside of New York. At first the family seem quite normal and content, but it becomes obvious over time that Keith is somewhat bored in his relationship with his wife Megan (Amy Ryan), and his daily routine lacks any drama and surprises for him. In short it's a story about a man in his mid 40's pondering his future, desperately looking for something exciting to happen. Keith has a daughter, Lauren (Mackenzie Davis) who complicates events even more by her friendship with Sophie.

Sophie is the temptress and the potential excitement in this story... Felicity Jones plays the part very well, not just in spoken word but the way she acts and looks, the innocence at times of her performance is quite refreshing. Similarly Guy Pearce plays the bored and tired husband very convincingly. Critically for a film of this type, there is a genuine strong chemistry in the performances smouldering and building up from the very first moment they meet. Despite his attempts to keep his distance Keith and Sophie are unable to turn the heat down and their relationship expands into something more than a physical attraction (and despite the age difference)

Drake Doremus is the young Director who encouraged the cast to improvise their scenes (a rough story and many takes evidently) it's an unusual way to make a film, but it does give a feeling or a more realistic and natural (believable) performance.

I wasn't surprised to find that the acting in this film was improvised. It feels very natural, like you are eavesdropping on a family at a certain time of their lives. There are little quirks here and there - such as when someone mishears what the other has said and are then corrected - which make it seem even more natural. The performances of the cast are wonderful all round. It is a film about loneliness, isolation, and re-discovering love and life…. for a little while. Sophie's piano performance in the music class is Chopin's Ballade #2.

Excellent performances by all in this movie. No explosions , no super heroes , no crashing cars. All you get is a story that just works.
Surely this subject has been shown in movies many times but the way this movie portrays the subject is just outstanding and beautiful.

I expected a lot more from a good cast and promising story line. However, it's like a wet banger - fizzing for a while then going out. As a middle aged music teacher who is restless in his humdrum existence, he is inspired to 'rock the boat' when a British student comes to stay with his family. There is something going on between the host father and the Brit girl, but in the end all they succeed in doing is upsetting everybody to no particular end. No one coms out of this film looking, not even Guy Pearce who can really get it on.

I watched this film a couple of nights ago and I cant get it out of my mind. The scenes between Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones are really good. It shows what good actors these two are because they convey so much emotion and were so convincing.

I watched "Breath In" last night with my wife and when its finished she said that "I just finished the movie and its so beautiful that I can watch it again just now" and this quote goes for me too. If you think we are exaggerating then go and watch yourself this movie and you ll agree with us.

I love the overall feel of the movie. Its a tiring subject which has been shown in movies many times but the way this movie portrays the same subject is outstanding and beautiful. All the actors did tremendous acting. I cant praise enough the scenes between Guy Pierce and Felicity Jones. I can watch this movie hundred of times and still enjoy it like I did in my first viewing.. What a beautiful wonderful movie. I also love the fact that there is no overly dramatic music in this movie and we just hear very beautiful piano notes and some outstanding cello which is well matched with the atmosphere of the movie.

I can say this without any hesitation that I have seen hundred of films this year but this is easily the best film of 2013 I have seen this year. I wish they make more movies like this one. Usually movies like these are made by Foreign film makers so its a breath of fresh air to see American Directors are experimenting with such cinema too.

The Blu-ray quality is outstanding. Both the Video and Audio are top notch. The only drawback is that there are no English subs and also there are no Extras apart from the trailer and a short interview but this doesn't stop me for giving this movie and Blu-ray a 5/5.

Highly recommended.
