Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

From the suggestive series of photos in the CD's packaging to the aerobicised dance-floor workouts within, Faith Hill refuses to concede an inch of crossover dominance to Shania Twain. Except for a seductive duet with husband Tim McGraw on "Let's Make Love" and an occasional pinch of fiddle or steel guitar, there is little here to characterise Hill as a country artist. As pop, the results range from pretty ("Breathe", "Love Is a Sweet Thing") to pretty slight ("I Got My Baby", "If My Heart Had Wings") to borderline inane ("Bringing Out the Elvis", the voyeuristic twist of "The Way You Love Me"). Though Hill's version of Bruce Springsteen's "If I Should Fall Behind" is admirably understated, too much of the album substitutes surface dazzle for emotional depth. --Don McLeese

What can i say - i can't find any flaws with this album. All the songs are fantastic and the wide varity of country, romance and upbeat tunes make it well worth the money.

'If my heart had wings' is by far the best song on the album as it is a v.good sing-a-long-song - for me anyway!

Overall, a great album. Now i can't wait for the next one to be released!

I love Faith Hill to bits and this album clearly shows why. It's like a BREATH of a fresh air on a hot summer day, work of a BREATHtaking beauty, kind of an album every great singer makes once in a career. For Sheryl Crow it was C'mon C'mon, for Shania it was Come on Over, for Faith it definitely was Breathe. After 11 years of listening it's still hard for me to point out any standout tracks on the album, as they all are. However for me the highlights are What's In It For Me, I Got My Baby, Breathe and the gospel influenced closing track There Will Come a Day. Incredible album through and through, the body of work to admire if not to love. Amazing

Simply breathtaking 13 May 2003
Format:Audio CD
Faith Hill is a country music superstar but now she is over-crossing to the pop/adult contemporary market. Not only is she an amazing powerful singer she is also very beautiful with a seemingly perfect marriage (alright for some!). Anyway but what's important is that she's not just a pretty face but that her music is of quality, which by this album and other albums it certainly is.

This album starts off with country/rock song, "What's in it for me?" It actually features a fiddle and a steel guitar, this song has sassy lyrics and it a great uplifting song to start off this album. The country/rock theme continues with the next song, "I got my baby" this song has a great melody and i love the way Faith voice sounds in this songs, she's almost rapping! For the third song it is toned down to a more serious sound, "Love is a sweet thing," the music is not as country as the first two but the lyrics are very much country and Faith brings back her twang in fact this song sounds like many of Martina McBride's recent songs.

Then comes the title track "Breathe", it is a beautiful ballad, it was a huge hit over in the US and won her many awards, it starts off with a calm verse then leads into a pulsating chorus, it is simply breathtaking. Then another ballad but this time a duet with her husband Tim McGraw, "Let's make love", this song is beautiful but since it is sung by husband and wife you someimes feel you are intruding on something personal between them but nontheless this is still a great love song and will be remembered by country fans as the same kind of song in the vain of Tammy Wynette and George Jones' duets. The album continues with the ballads "It will be me" again a song that wouldn't have been out of place on a Martina McBride album and in fact her Faith's voice can sometimes sound like Martina's.

The next song "The way you love me", is the most pop sounding song thus far on the album. It's another love song with a great melody that will have you singing it in your head as soon as you have heard it. "If i'm not in love", a piano-led ballad that was originally sung by Jody Watley, but Faith is just as convincing in this very emotional ballad. The next two songs: "Bringing out the Elvis" and "If my heart had wings", are feisty up-tempo songs that make you want to get up and dance.

Then comes another ballad and cover "If i should fall behind", which i think is the outstanding track and my personal favourite, it's a love song with haunting music, you can just imagine driving along in your car near a beach listening to this song, it is very atmostpheric. The love theme is continuted with "That's love moves", which is a ballad that soars into a gospel song, lovely. This leads into the next song "There will come a day", which has a religious theme to it so it may not be to everyones taste but it's still a catchy song, also a gospel sounding song.

I really have no complaints about this album, some people have said that it's no longer country but there is still evidence here that Faith is still a country singer but is also influnced by pop/rock. This is a great album and fans of both Celine Dion and Martina McBride and the like should go out and buy this album.
