A Breath of Hope - The Humal Sequence Volume 1

The Humals. Humanoid Aliens. They dominated the spiral arm millennia ago then vanished without trace. Man had found traces of their presence, reverse-engineered their technology and speculated endlessly about their demise. But no one really knew what had happened. No one knew why they had disappeared or why so few traces of them remained.

For James Hamilton the Humals were not something he concerned himself about. Not, that is, until a billionaire philanthropist seeks him out with a proposition he can't ignore.

It started out as the offer of a lifetime. A way to finally end all his financial concerns and to do something good for humanity into the bargain. But as Hamilton was well aware, if something sounds too good to be true then it usually isn’t.

Suspicious, Hamilton fears the worst and plans accordingly but even he is unprepared for the events that will follow. With precious few allies and more questions than answers, Hamilton must desperately try to piece together the clues in order to understand what is going on before it is too late.

For what starts out as a journey for the betterment of mankind may well sow the seeds of its destruction.

A good solid novel 5 Nov 2011
By M. Ives
Format:Kindle Edition
Bought this on a whim and am glad I did. A really good, gripping book with solid characters and a solid plot. It is nice to read a well written and compact book every now and then. Especially while most authors are trying to drag out over inflated story lines so they fill these dreaded 'trilogies' we are bombarded with at present.
Well worth a read.

Unputdowmnable 27 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Ok I am tearing through all of Robert's books. Clearly written and engaging stories the only criticism I can offer is they are getting me into trouble with the other half. Every time she looks up I have my head buried in the kindle. I picked up this book on the strength of kindle reviews and I have not been disappointed. After reading this book I promptly bought the other three available from the same author. I have read three so far and they are all 5 stars for me.

A story that builds 9 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This work was written some 20 years ago and the author states, quite frankly, that he couldn't get it published.
I found it a little slow to start and the story takes a while to gather pace. There's quite a bit of space devoted to an interlude where the main protagonist gets involved with a local gang. Quite irrelevant to the main story and it should have been binned.
However, the story quickens relentlessly and the conclusion is totally out of left field.
A good solid read and it's a mandatory lead-in to the even more enjoyable sequel.

ok
It helped pass some time in reading. Not as good as I hoped on story, structure or use of words - but for the price it was fun.

Maybe a breath of hope
I would always try hard to find something positive in any book I read, as I believe that the author has put time and effort into their writing. Read more

Amateurish
I had a lot of problems reading this book its painfully slow and very dated. The constant reference to one of the characters as "the black man" made me cringe. Read more

Compelling reading
I picked this up as a chance buy on the basis of the previous reviews. I had been looking around for new authors a bit tired of the usual suspects.
