quick learning,

This series is excellent for taking the learner through from beginning French to quite a high level of fluency is speaking and ease and speed of comprehension. All the topics are well chosen though some seem allied to a particular city. The grammar is secondary to reading and listening but is perfectly adequate. I found the key words and phrases helpful and well-chosen. The tapes are good but there is too much English on them and too many repetitions of quite simple instructions concerning which exercise to do next. But you do finish by speaking and understanding the language quite confidently.

The CDs are not 'missing' from ASIN: 140391673X
The back cover of the book shows: Available to accompany this course: 2 audio CDs (ISBN 1-4039-9287-8) 3 audio cassettes (ISBN 1-4039-1674-8) The ISBN for the combined 224-page Colour Book and 3x60-minute Cassettes is 9781403916723. I do not see an ISBN for a pack to contain a book and audio CDs. Breakthrough French 2: Euro Edition Breakthrough French 2: Euro Edition Breakthrough French 2: Euro Edition (Breakthrough S.). Not really suitable for independent home study,

Generally, this course is quite good, but it is best used when it forms the centrepiece of a proper french class; it depends quite heavily on authentic conversations from native speakers, and some of them are spoken very fast with a lot of "distortion" due to local dialect. However, there are several exercises that have no associated transcripts (although they do have answers to questions about the conversation in the exercise). This can be extremely annoying if you are trying to use the book independently by yourself.
