Product Description

The world has finally thawed. It's been seven long years since a meteorite called Saris 7 struck the earth and plunged it into a nuclear winter. Most of the world has perished. But there are pockets of survivors here and there. Hidden deep within an abandoned salt mine are Mark and Hannah and forty others. They've gone through the worst and are looking forward to coming out and starting the next chapter of their lives.

But the world is still a very ugly place, and it's not going to be easy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost great 14 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thought this was a really good series of books, a good story line, good characters and a believable plot.
The one thing that is really disappointing is the total lack of security that would surely be needed in a situation like this...
Sure they have cameras, in fact I think they have cameras watching cameras but not once in any of the books so far did they mention any sort of practical security like buying weapons or ammunition or training any of the group in using them. Living in a compound where you would expect to be attacked at some point in time and they only had the cameras to rely on again, no sentries, no physical security barriers to stop attackers apart from a steel fence and a door. Their plans for security seems to be run and hide...
There are 40 people in their group which means that according to estimates it would take a group of 160 to capture the compound from them if those inside were armed and trained. I understand that some people may feel that weapons and training would be bottom of the list but the reality is that in a situation like this they would be as important to survival as food and water.

It's a same as it spoils an other wise really good series.

I read all three books one after the other. The love story is a bit "mills and boom" but well worth reading.

A real disappointment after the first two books . I won't hold my breath waiting for the next one. Too much describing about the animals, plants and birthday cakes they whipped up, etc...boring!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!!!! 8 April 2014

All I can say is "When will the next one be out?" This whole series is based on a great premise. I won't give any spoilers, but suffice it to say the premise is very well developed. The only drawback to these books is that they're not long enough! Write more Mr. Maloney!

2.0 out of 5 stars An immature effort 15 May 2014

This novel gets bogged down with mundane detail making it an uneventful, boring read. Also, the reader can be frustrated with so much incongruence.

5.0 out of 5 stars ~~Out of the Salt Mine~~ 6 April 2014
By A Navy Vet...VT town - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
After spending many years in the salt mine, the group of 40 is finally able to get above ground. Trying to plant the seeds proves to be problematic, however. Lots of back breaking work so a trip is planned to obtain a seed planter. Mark, Brad and Bryan are successful in this mission but someone does see them and wonders where they are going.

The characters are well developed as is the plot. I absolutely love the interaction between Hannah and her husband, Mark. Hannah has such a great sense of humor in these difficult times. On the evil side there is Skully and his fellow group of prisoners. I also thought that the addition of Frank and his group in San Antonio added depth to the story. Found the reburial scene to be a most poignant moment in this series.

The ending leaves the reader waiting for the next one...

Most highly recommended.
