5.0 out of 5 stars Just Awesome!!! 4 Mar 2006
Format:Audio CD
I got this CD at the start of the week and it's barely left the player - The Research's debut is wonderful from start to finish and virtually every track is single-worthy, or like 'Spltting Hairs', just devestatingly beautiful.

The voices of Russell (keyboards), Georgia (bass guitar) and Sarah (drums) are what makes this album so special; they blend together effortlessly, yet sound so individual when each take lead vocals. Combine such conviction with shatteringly honest lyrics like 'I love you, but I'm scared I'll f*ck it ip' and these tales of joy and disfunction have the ability to utterly entrance.

'C'mon Chameleon' and 'The Hard Times' threaten to bounce right off the surface of the disc, whilst 'We've Got Something' creates sunshine quite effortlessly. Just don't let the bright exterior of The Research fool you - there is an even darker, tragic core to these recordings that creates their real beauty.

The Research are a stunning live band and happily, are just as fun yet affecting on record. I couldn't recommmend it higher!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreak in Wakefield 24 Aug 2010
By A. Ray
Format:Audio CD
The Reasearch - Keyboard years.
Fist album by quirky Yorshire trio or perhaps threesome.
Worth having alone for the track "I love you but..." which continues..I'm scared I'll f*ck it up", as well as such indie heartbreak classics as "Lonely hearts still beat the same", "The way you used to smile and "The HARD times"
Try the 2nd LP too where front man Russell accomanys the girls with his guitar instead.
peachy

5.0 out of 5 stars Heard the samples at www.theresearchgopop.com and I got hooked! 6 Sep 2007
By Coral - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This CD is really good and the band is so amazing. If you've listened to Death Cab for Cutie or The Postal Service you'll notice that the man in the band Russell sounds like Death and Postal's lead singer but he's not.
The girls in the band have such good voices. If listened to the Moonbabies (or heard them on Grey's Anatomy) then you'll notice that Sarah/the blond girl(the front girl singer) sounds kind of like the woman in the Moonbabies.
And Georgia (the back/melody girl singer) is the only one with a unique voice in the band.
I'm not trying to put Russell and Sarah down, their voices are so phenomenal and the Research have such catchy sounds and melodies. There's a list of singers and bands that the Research are similar to but their way of mixing it all together is their most original style.
P.S.
For Grey's Anatomy music fans the Research's song on Breaking Up called
"Lonely Hearts Still Beat the Same" played on the third season. My top 3 favorite songs(samples) on the album Breaking Up is:

1)I love you,but...
2)Ba Ba Ba
3)When You Get Home

I've had this CD in my car since I bought it almost a month ago - unfortunately it sounds much better on shuffle than listening straight through.
