5.0 out of 5 stars The best show on TV gets better 1 Jun 2013
By Chris Widgery VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I cannot tell a lie. There were times during season 3 when my attention wavered slightly. No chance with season 4.

*spoilers ahead*

Following Jesse's murder of Gail at the end of season 3, season 4 is entirely dominated by the increasingly tense relationship between crime lord Gus and his unwanted but irreplaceable cooks - Walter and Jesse. The season tracks Jesse's reaction to the murder and the pair's imminent deaths - Aaron Paul has never been better. And the balance of power shifts subtly and delightfully over the course of the season. Walt's journey is brilliantly handled, hugely believable and Cranston is utterly compelling. And while all of this is going on, Hank is recovering from his shooting and is on the scent (and getting closer all the time). Without ever losing sight of plausibility, they keep cranking the handle and it just goes from strength to strength.

There is only one reason not to buy season 4 - and that's because season 5 isn't yet available to buy (hasn't even been finished in the US) so your life will be utterly bereft once you get to the final episode.

Apart from that, you need Breaking Bad in your life

5.0 out of 5 stars An Emmy for Aaron Paul. 28 Sep 2012
By Sue Kichenside TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
I was absolutely delighted to see Aaron Paul win a thoroughly well deserved Emmy for his performance as Jesse in BB. (IMHO, his acceptance speech should have consisted of just two words, delivered in his inimitable style: "Yo, bitch!" but nevertheless, he seemed genuinely moved - and I digress.)

I am about 2/3 through Series 4 and continuing to enjoy it immensely, as the relationship between Mr White and Jesse continues to develop most interestingly and the relationship between Jesse and Chicken Man - well, I won't say anything here for fear of giving plot spoilers to other mid-series or about to watch viewers.

This really is an exceptional piece of television by anyone's standards: script, photography, music, editing and acting - which is out of this world. It's hard to imagine that tv could get any better.

UPDATE: Having finished Series 4 and now half way through Series 5, it is astonishing that the tension mounts still further and the diamond-hard brilliance of this dark drama never fails to leave the viewer anything less than rapt.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definition of perfection. 4 July 2012
Format:DVD
It always seems to happen. The true masterpieces in the world of entertainment always seem to get overlooked in favour of more familiar territory. Arrested development, undoubtedly one of the funniest tv shows ever made, cancelled after only three seasons. True musical geniuses like radiohead, while still very popular, will never be nearly as famous as 'icons' like Katy Perry or Justin Bieber. How breaking bad has not become a mainstream smash hit by now is beyond me. Breaking Bad is nothing short of stunning. You thought The Wire and The Sopranos were good? You ain't seen nothing yet. This show, in my humble opinion, blows them out of the water. It combines humour, drama, action and some incredibly emotional moments to form some of the best television ever created. While I thought the third season was amazing, I did find it maybe a little tame at times, with a few episodes where not a whole lot seemed to be going on. No such problem here. The pacing is pitch perfect. There are so many jaw dropping moments in this season, you couldn't count them all with both hands. (unless your a cyborg or something. In which case, cease reading this review and return to your own planet.) No show does tension like breaking bad. Gus is a truly terrifying individual, and some of his actions in this season will send chills down your spine, trust me. The whole season is a rollercoaster ride that you won't ever forget. It's truly a shame this show hasnt seen more commercial success, as it truly deserves it. It's even more disappointing to hear that the upcoming season 5 will be the final season. Whether that's due to the shows poor viewing figures or because the story has naturally ran it's course, we'll have to wait and see but I hope this masterpiece eventually gets the recognition it deserves.

5.0 out of 5 stars breaking all expectations 11 May 2012
Format:DVD
It would seem that this is the final of the series (but who knows?). totally worth while, with a continued maintenace of the strange, very human, characteristics of the main players in this black, funny, awful, intriguing and certainly addictive series. It would seem wrong to say almost anything except - if you saw the others yo must get this. If you didnt see the others, then you better start with season 1. simply the best drama ever. wll be hard to beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cranston does it again ! 15 Jun 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Another brilliant story from Bryan Cranston. `Breaking Bad` held my attention all the way through, and the author`s twisting and turning plot lines were well up to his usual incisive and exciting style - an excellent read !

5.0 out of 5 stars A chemical reaction of drama, comedy and tragedy 10 Jun 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Hiow this series manages to maintain it's strong storylines, is in no doubt to a series of crackling scripts and top-drawer acting by all the protagonists. Addictive drama that keeps telling you to watch just the one more episode even as the midnight hour clack strikes, I cannot recommend this highly enough and want to see Series 5 more eagerly. That Series 5 is in two parts means waiting that little bit longer for the DVD set - but I am sure it will not fail to provoke, entertain and enrage.
