I'm totally flummoxed by this book. Both by the absolutely wretched organization of the book and by the idea that a publisher would actually go to the trouble to print it in its current form.
The problem is that there is really no way to rapidly find a B&B in any particular area or town. The only index in the book lists the names of the B&B's in alphabetical order and gives you a page number. The B&B's are grouped by somewhat arbitrary regions with minimal cartographic detail. Each region has it's own map with the B&B's indicated. No page numbers referenced here though. So assuming you can find the correct regional map and then orient yourself well enough to find the area you are visiting, you then need to thumb through that section to find a particular B&B's description. Since the region maps are not tabbed, they are hard to find and easy to lose while flipping back and forth. I can visualize a poor couple trying to sort this out at the last minute while on the road.
The book has a large choice of listings but minimal photos to help in selecting. Not all the entries have prices listed. I suppose those French hôtes don't all have phones yet!
Why the devil the author chose not to index the towns nearest each B&B is beyond me. Maybe others do it differently but I try to pick lodging based on where I'm going and not by an establishment's name which I've never even heard of.
Well it's ours now so we will deal with it for an imminent trip but I'll look better before I leap for another AA publication.
