I remember hearing this new (at the time) type of dance music with its Euphoric riffs and angelic vocals, and thinking "surely dance music will never sound happier than this?". Well, it's been more than a decade, but I think I was right. No subsequent styles of dance music have lifted my spirits to quite the same heights.

Unfortunately (and typically for most dance music styles), over the last ten years or so the British charts have been bombarded with an endless stream of sound-alike pop-trance hits, the majority of them so heavily commercialised that they should be heard only at kids' parties. Thankfully the tracks on this compilation are not like that; they're the real thing. This is the original euphoric trance sound.

The tracklisting almost reads like a "greatest hits" of the classics of this genre: Paul Van Dyk's 'For An Angel', Planet Perfecto's 'Bullet In The Gun', Alena's 'Turn It Around', Agnelli & Nelson's 'El Nino', 3 Drives' 'Greece 2000', Veracocha's 'Carte Blanche'...

Commercial tunes have their place in this mix, but they're well-chosen and do not dominate the tracklising (a remix of Mansun's 'Wide Open Space' is a surprise choice, but certainly not out of place).

All in all, this is simply one of the best of the "mixed" dance compilations ever produced, and if you want a true taste of the trance music scene of the end of the 90s, I would definitely recommend this album. There have been many volumes in the series of Breakdown compilations, but for me the original is the best.

Be VERY wary of anyone selling this CD.

They've either got more than one copy, have never listened to it, or have some form of severe mental disorder. I say this because there is no way a sane person would willingly part with this CD.

I lost my copy on a ferry several years ago and have been in mourning ever since. Or at least until I managed to get a replacement recently.

Most compilation cd's consist of the 'good' songs you really want, interspersed between the filler. In this case, the 'filler' is mixed so perfectly that you end up having an impossible task trying to pick out any weak spot on the album.

Made in the period when Trance was at it's peak, this album could not be any better.

Must be listened to with headphones.

When I got this album I was pretty dubious as I had only heard about 2 or 3 songs off it.
However when you listen to it, you realise that this is out of this world, easily the best album of this genre EVER! (The makers of ''The Best Dance album ever'' should be sued for false advertising!)
Its not a coincidence that every other review here says its the best, it simply is. Even my mates who are heavy goths love this album, this is as good as it gets and if you love music you need this in your collection. Every single track is an amazing tune, and there are songs that would be standout tracks on any other album, but on this they seem ordinary.
Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

Absolutely superb! All the dancing greats are there. There's no point in listing a few ones which are particualy good, theres too many! A good veriation of amazing dance hits through out the nineties. One of things that really made this CD is a winner for me, is that there are so many tracks which I kept on hearing, (you know, quite old ones) but could never get hold of them. Most of them are on this CD! If you like dance music, don't hesitate (unless you are a tramp or someone in extreme poverty!) to buy this fantastic collection!

This really is an amazing CD. Every single song is worth listening to many, many times, and really does leave you feeling happy to the world! I have never bought such a good CD, and especially not one with so many excellent tracks. Take my word for it, you will never get a better CD than this.

Superb!
You get fed up listening to the same old tunes just remixed in a different format and re released under a different label, but this really is special. Some excellent tracks of old and new.
Euphoric Breakdown really is worth it's price!

A superb mix of the very best of 90s dance and club anthems. If you're only going to buy one dance compilation then you've got to get this one!!!

Breakdown 1, which started the series of successful euphoric dance and chillout cd's, still remains a classic today. As one of the first Eupohoric dance cd's it encapulated all the big hits of the genre. It is seemlessly mixed and dabbles between hardcore trance and more chilled beats.
