I've loved the Beaumont books since discovering the series in 1989 ... read all of them and the Arizona ones, too. (Seattle wins, hands down.) This story, with two unrelated cases as well as personal events in the lives of the main players, is one of the best in the series. Please don't let this be JP's last case! The events of this story seemed to affect JP more than some of the others, and the reader couldn't help but share his feelings. As always, Jance takes me back for another visit to Seattle, probably my favorite place in the world. I hope she's busy on another Beaumont book ... I'm waiting!
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Hardboiled homicide detective investigates the death of a woman who burned to death in her bed. Looked like a suicide first, but was not. Intermingled is a story of native Americans gods persecuting people who had touched some sacred bones. Since I do not believe in magic, this was no book for me. But some sequences were quite all right, like an action sequence involving a man kidnapping his wife and kids.

After waiting patiently for years for Jance to produce another Beaumont, I was disappointed at how rushed this novel seemed. The "mysteries" were uninteresting and it seemed that she was trying to tie up loose ends so that she can concentrate on her Joanna Brady series. Jance is a favorite of mine and I plan to keep reading, but I had to agree with those readers who were less than satisified with her results this time around.

Beau is back and irresistible!
