Mix of Classical and Bossa Nova styles 10 Jan. 2004
By Alessandro Bruno - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I have always enjoyed the interpretations of Daniel Baremboim from the time I first heard his recording of the Schubert impromptus when I was I teen-ager. In the mid 90's Baremboim started to record less traditional forms of Classical music (I least I consider it classical) such as the Tango. And what a wonderful result he has achieved. As a geographically logical next step, baremboim has made a Bossa Nova album. Bossa Nova is one of my favorite styles on its own. Combined with the approach of a classical pianist who revels in the music of Beethoven and Schubert, the music adopts a slightly different but equally enjoyable sound. More than Bossa Nova the album features a beautiful interpretation of a classical piece by Hector Villa Lobos (Bachianas Brasileiras no. 5) which is normally interpreted by a soprano (it's Brasil's answer to Rachmaninov's Vocalise). Perhaps, due to the surprise on the simple and poignant beauty of the melody, I think this piece alone is worth buying the album for. I was especially lucky as I received this as an unexpected gift from someone who grasped my tastes very well from my prefrences on Amazon, for which I am always grateful. Muito Obrigado

Classic Elegant Bossa Nova 18 Jan. 2007
By Neal W. Kuzee - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
This is a very nicely produced CD with some Brazilian standards and five unique bossa nova arrangements, Manha De Carvaval, Tristeza, Wave, Avarandado, and Sabia. The sound is unique is that the piano style is highly infuenced with a classical piano flavor. I'm very glad I bought this one.
A successful cross-over 25 Jan. 2013
By billinrio - Published on Amazon.com

Reviewer Pablo Rossi (above) writes in his (untranslated) Spanish that a Brazilian street musician plays better, more authentically than Barenboim; that Barenboim doesn't feel the true "Brazilian Soul". Unfortunately, Mr. Ross doesn't tell us when and where he has had the privilege of being in touch with that particular object, but I suspect a quick week-end in Rio. Well, I'm from Brazil and I can tell you that Barenboim plays these songs marvelously well, with great feeling for the genre and, of course, immense talent. Highly recommended.

What a delightful CD this is! It was so fascinating hearing another side of Daniel Barenboim. . .reminding me once again that he is such an amazing muscician. When I found it on utube, it was such a joy seeing him in the process of making the CD, and observing how beautifully he interacted with all the other musicians. He is such a gentle, humble human being. When I loan this CD to friends, I have trouble getting it back! The only answer seems to be to purchase another copy for them!!
Brazilian Kaleidoscope 27 April 2014

If you have ever been to Brazil, this should bring back some memories of that time. The keyboard expertise of Daniel Barenboim brings it into focus, starting with Tico Tico. Vocals and several instrumentalists provide a nice variety. The recording quality is very good. Playing this CD affirmed my decision to buy it.
