The UK produced game LittleBigPlanet is as good a reason as any to buy the Sony PS3, it has fun platform gameplay and you can fully customise your little cloth 'sackboy' characters look, by say adding bunny ears and zebra stripes. Plus you can make your character smile, smile inanely or look sad or very sad [mostly to amuse your co-players]. My 13 year old son loves the game and has collectable figures such as plastic model Disney Stitches. So as a fun cheap gift for his birthday I bought him one of these little sackmen with the smiley face - both versions are available at the moment for under a fiver. My son loved it, and insisted I also got him the alternative 'sad/angry' face sackboy version as well. He keeps them both in their blister packs for display and occasional play. The cardboard rear of the blister pack slides off easily and can be slide back again, leaving the packaging looking pristine - which is important for display as the LittleBigPlanet printing on the background card adds a lot to the visual look.
The detailed 8x4x4 cm figure is well made from solid plastic and is pose-able with the arms and legs moving up and down. The head can also rotate, but it is a bit stiff. I'm not sure whether the sack man would take a lot of posing adjustments, we treat him as an ornament in his blister pack, but he seems OK for this [perhaps spray some polish into his joints]. I'd advise keeping the toy away from those under 5 as the arms and legs are quite thin should they detach. The figure is more suited to older kids and young adults anyway as they will be more familiar with LittleBigPlanet - you need to know the game to fully appreciate this figurine. You can't use the arms/legs that much in any case as the figure is hard to sit down or stand up, that big head means he topples over very easily, standing or sitting, so you have to adjust the weight distribution of the figure for each pose [so perhaps there's some educational value as well]. This sackboy looks good and is easy to carry about, which is all most under tens need in an occasional toy - although I suspect his natural habitat is standing as an re-posable ornament near the PS3.
My son loves both the figures. His only very minor disappointment was that the figure wasn't real cloth [but it is pretty convincingly moulded]. He also would really like to be able create a customisable sackboy like you do in the game, e.g. add those zebra stripes and fluffy ears - but I doubt the figure would be so cheap then. Overall he thinks the figure is 'a laugh & cool' and gives it 5* [and at under a fiver it's 5* for value as well - but do shop around on Amazon].Read more ›
When I opened the packet, I was thrilled with my new Sackboy figure I ordered to coincide with my pre-order of LittleBigPlanet PSP. It's articulate in it's arms and legs (They can't bend) and it has a fully rotatable head.
It is almost painfully adorable and looks very handsome on my desk right now.
I would recommend this to kids 3+, Adults looking for an ornament, LittleBigPlanet fans and pretty much anyone.
Was really disappointed with the product, I thought looking at the images that it was a proper, fabric sackboy, but when it arrived, found it was a poxy, plastic, thumbsized sackboy. I feel it was overpriced and that I was somewhat misled.
I got this for my son who is 6 and I couldn't believe how good it was when it arrived so I took it from him, only joking. He loves it. It comes with a leaflet saying they will be releasing accessories for the 3" version soon.
Infact I had to order another one as my 12 year old daughter said it looked so cute, lol.
