Product Description

Synopsis

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting pits masters of every kind of combat - street fighting, sumo, judo - in matches broadcast around the world. This book chronicles the turbulent history of MMA fighting from its inception in the Greek Olympic Games, through its glorification in Japan to its growing popularity as an American sport. Through personal interviews with legendary fighters, Krauss offers a detailed look into that world of absolute intensity, the MMA - a world of honour, vendettas, and drunken back-alley scraps.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is like a bible of MMA 23 Feb 2003
Format:Paperback
The book is written by two guys who know what they're talking about. The book looks at the early days of UFC up to UFC 34 and gives a brief background on all the major fighters, Shamrock, Gracies, Ortiz, taking part in the bigger matches. It also lookes at other MMA organisations and how these helped bring about the legalisation of MMA in the United States. The last few chapters gives you a rundown of some of the better fighters in each weight division. If you like Mixed Martial Arts then this book is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars History in MMA: Pre ufc XXXIV 10 Nov 2003
Format:Paperback
A great book for people new and old to the scene of NHB, complete with fight history, quotes and runthroughs.
I enjoyed this book because it was a fair account feuds and bouts, mainly UFC but Pride still manages to sneak in with it's own chapter.
On the whole it a solid bed-time storybook and if you liked this I strongly recommend Clive Gentry's excellent "No holds barred-The story of ultimate fighting".

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite a good read 22 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read fighters heart by the same author and really enjoyed it. I found this book also easy to read and didn't want to put it down. It shows a load of perspectives on people I thought I already knew quite a lot about. I liked the way it was structured and thought the prose flowed and made sense. If you are a fan of Mixed Martial Arts and if you like to learn about the history of the sport this is a great book to buy.
