3.0 out of 5 stars Quality kit 2 Oct 2012
By Simon

Received yesterday. Has a very nice feel and quality finish. Near impossible to get out the box to the point I thought I would damage it. I appreciate that this is near thicky proof to set up however instructions in box are rubbish. However, synced first time. Sound quality is good, I wouldn't say exceptional and had I paid the full 129 I would probably be disappointed. I have listened to the jawbone and would say it is comparable. Playing some classical with lots of variation it distorted a bit.

As an update

After having the speaker for just over a month, it just stopped working. Would not power on or off although the power light did come on when attempting to charge. Amazon arranged a replacement within a few days, however, I am getting to doubt the build quality as when charging the new unit, the charger itself fused. As the charger has a USB lead, this is not an issue however, at this price I would expect better. I have amended the review down to 3 from a 5.

On a positive, the more I listen to the unit, you get to appreciate the sound quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Braven 600 2 Oct 2012

PROS: portability and convenience;clear crisp sound with decent volume;good battery life;easy to use.
CONS: limited bass; average speakerphone; expensive compared to good digital radios.
SUMMARY: no substitute for home hi-fi, but with limitations a very good portable solution.

ONE WEEK LATER

Still pleased with the product, which is significantly enhanced by device-based equalisers. If your phone lacks one there is a very good app at the Google Store which includes a base-boost. I needed this for radio stations as my phone-based EQ only worked for music downloads. The resulting sound is pleasing, although not really able to compete with decent home hi-fi, or headphones.

The speakerphone works fine incoming, but they will have difficulty hearing you (unless it's right up against your face - like a phone!!) so it's not a lot of use.

This product is the best solution when a portable speaker is needed for specific situations involving more than one person, such as the beach, or with friends when you can all share the music on your phones. On your own in the house, the bathroom is the obvious scenario. Other than that you might find that the cheaper option of head/earphones is better, given the improved sound quality. Also, as I hinted earlier, given the expense you may wish to consider a good digital radio (especially one with usb/internet capability).

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound in a small package 10 Dec 2012

Compared this to a friends 'Jawbone', and feel this is the better quality speaker. The ability to charge the phone is an added bonus. Not worth the full RRP, but I bought it on an Amazon 'deal of the day' promotion, and am very pleased with the purchase. I use it via Bluetooth on my iPad and iPod, and using the supplied cable with my laptop. It works well, is extremely well made, and I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 17 Dec 2013

This was a gift to my other half, but I do "borrow" it on occasion :) We also take it on holiday together and use it to output music from our phones or from the iPad.

It's solidly built, and has a nice look to it. The bluetooth connectivity is simple and effective, but of course you can use a lead if you're using a device that doesn't have it. You can also use the speaker as a handsfree device, which of course is "handy" (no pun intended)

The sound is crisp but powerful, with a decent amount of bass. It's better quality than most hotel room facilities, and in fact because it's so good you don't need to have it on loud (though it can handle it if you want it). Battery life longevity is good but I must admit I've never measured it. The ability to charge your device from the charge in the speaker is really handy.
At the end of the day, this is no replacement for a good home system, but for portable music it's hard to beat.

This has come down in price over the past 12 months. Now it's under 100, I can recommend this all the more - it would make a really good purchase for those wanting a high quality wireless speaker.

Performed and sounded amazing for it's size. Definitely worth it for a kitchen party. Volume could definitely be cranked up more than enough.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Build Quality 10 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase
Like everyone I read the reviews posted. I heard that there were issues with build quality.. But decided to go ahead and purchase.. Very Bad Move!! Please trust these reviews, the unit charged up first time OK, it even connected first time.. But then next day I went to use it and all charge had drained away.. When I attempted to recharge the main off-on switch failed.. Just as reported in other reviews.. I had to return the unit on the second day of getting it.. I then had to chase Amazon for my refund we'll past the 10 Days they quote.. It's just not worth the trouble..

.Braven 600 Portable Wireless Speaker - Grey Aluminium

I bought this last September and I was intially very impressed with the sound quality and general build, but after a couple of weeks, the power on/off switch failed and I couldnt turn off the unit.

I returned the unit without a problem and received a replacement....but the same thing has happened again - this time after six weeks! It sitll works and it turns itself off automatically, but its frustrating watching the battery drain unnecessarily. It would last even longer if i could turn it off when I wanted to. The switches are fiddly and plasticky and bring down the build quality, and for all those reasons I cant give it more than 3 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful bit of kit
This is a very well made speaker with a very good sound. I got this on a black friday deal so it was almost half price. I don't think I would buy one at full price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the sound quality I expected
I played this side by side with the Creative D200 and the Creative wins hands down. IN comparison this speaker sounds very tinny. No recommended for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is either 3.8 or 4 stars
The build quality is great. However, the gripe I have with the speaker is that it makes annoying sounds which should be adjustment not just in parallel with general speaker sounds. Read more
