Braun cruZer 6 Face All-in-One Shaver and Trimmer

Grabbed this one for my other half who has fully tested it out today.

It dry shaves very well, there were a few straggle hairs left however which it wouldn't seem to pick up no matter what he did, so he had to resort to taking these off with a normal razor.

The wet shave was ok, but again left straggly hairs, my oh said that he found it a bit weird using it in the shower.

The best bit he found was the shaper tool on the unit itself, it has a curved edge so you can make cool shapes on your face, my oh has gone for the Tony stark goatee and this worked very well for that and on that score he was very impressed.

The negatives:

No plug, it has a 2 pin adaptor, and they didn't include a plug so we had to go out and buy one for £5. I have no idea why manufacturers do this because it is beyond annoying.

Very loud, i was expecting a more humming noise like a toothbrush but its like a mini aeroplane taking off.

No case or pouch to put it away in, this is a massive negative for us because there are 3 additional combs, plus the oil to keep it clean etc which you will definitely lose because there is nowhere to keep it all together. How hard would it of been to include a small pvc case to keep it all in, i mean they can do it will £20 hair straighteners and my partner was not happy with this and has again gone out and had to buy one.

As a result of all these negatives this gets a 3 star from us.

****Update****

After a full week of use every day my partner has requested an update to his thoughts on this item.

I have upgraded the points to a 4 star because he has now gotten used to using it. We have found that the trick to dry shaving with just the foil is to hold the shaver at a 90 degree angle to your face and shave very very slowly, my partner now achieves a dry shave that is identical to a wet shave, this was only through a week of practice, his face is baby soft smooth and is now very impressed.

Also i failed to mention and he didn't realise until we sat down and looked at the manual that this has an eyebrow trimmer, he used it, apprehensively at first i might add as he thought it was going to take them all off, but we were pleasantly surprised as it just trimmed them without making him look like a girl, he was very happy with the results.

A few tips, do not attempt to just use the foils if your beard is a few mm long, its best to shave these off with the trimmer tool first, and then just use the foils otherwise it feels as though your face is being pulled apart.

Also moisturise immediately after as it can dry rub the skin a lot and my partners was a bit flaky afterwards.

Practice the 90 degree angle to your face and do it very very slowly, as in a good 10 seconds to each pass, a bit like an electric toothbrush, you will get much better effects that way.

Also the flip up and flup over feature on the beard and shape trimmer tools is brilliant as you don't need to stop shaving to change combs etc as it is all right there. For example, trim the beard down, flip it down, flip the trimmer over, get the shaper trimmer, shape it, flip it back down and then foil shave, all with one hand and all without moving the shaver away from your face.

I do agree in parts that the packaging and the design of this item might look to the eye as though it is being aimed at the younger 20s market but my partner is 39 and he loves it.

He has tried electric shavers in the past and has never got on with them and so he is now one happy man.

Try it for yourself, i think you may be very pleasantly surprised.

The Braun cruZer 6 is a foil based trimmer/shaver; I`ve used it exclusively for five consecutive days now and I must say, I`m quite impressed with it.

It takes 4 hours to charge initially and Braun say this will provide 30 mins. shaving time; so far, the charge has held up well. Subsequent charges will take 1 hour, with a quick charge option for a single shave. The unit feels reassuringly solid with a good rubberised grip. I generally prefer a wet shave and have only started using an electric razor - a Philips Power Touch 3-blade rotary - as a quick alternative, so comparisons, for me, are inevitable.
I found the Braun to be speedy and efficient; it catches the stubble around the chin, jaw line and neck area quite well, with only a few repeat passes required (of course this assessment is based on my own delicately-sculpted physiognomy, you understand) the straight, rigid nature of the foil design requires more manipulation than my Philips to get at some of the awkward areas - like the side of the chin just below the corners of the mouth - but generally, it performed the task well, shaving close with no razor burn.

The trimmers are fixed on the back of the unit and have a swivel mounting; I haven`t had a beard for years and stubble isn't my thing, but I do have sideburns that require maintenance. I found the comb attachments and wide trimmer too big for that task; the wide trimmer is effective without the comb, but its much safer and precise to use the smaller trimmer with its groomer fitting. This brings me to the only apparent negative points concerning the Braun - the hard plastic combs are attached using a lug and locator-point design rather than a slide-on system; the lugs seem a little vulnerable to me and could easily get broken over time; the razor cover is also combined with one of the comb attachments - I would have preferred a separate cap as the combs are superfluous to my own requirements. There is no carry case supplied either, which is a real oversight considering this is what would be considered by most to be an essential travel item.

These gripes aside, the Braun cruZer 6 is a very capable product, excellent as a razor and - from my experiments on the sideburns - very good as a three-in-one trimmer.
The unit is easily cleaned; its washable, comes with a brush and small bottle of light machine oil to keep the moving parts in good order. Buy a two-pin adaptor for it, and you're away.
No electric shaver ever matches a wet shave - the results are temporary, but when travelling or in a hurry this Braun would be a useful item to have.

A good solid recommendation, 4 ½ stars.

I will be honest, at the price (£34.99) I wasn't expecting this to be much of a great shaver, however with it being both waterproof and a Braun product I ordered it anyway as I needed to replace an old Phillips non-waterproof shaver.

The saver itself does very well, giving a smooth non-irritating shave that is very comfortable day in and day out. The trimmer is possibly even better,having never used something with so many add-ons I was astonished to see it was flexible enough to cut both my budding facial hair and even cut through 'other hair', so this could even be described as a full body shaver to a certain degree (depending on your hair thickness).

The charging time is very short, giving upwards of 10 long uses in the shower before a recharge is needed, as well as having the ability to quick charge for five minutes from completely dead to allow for a quick shave, a great feature for those who sometimes forget to put their shaver on charge.

Overall this is a superb product and I would recommend it to everyone.
