Ouch was the first word which came to mind when I agreed to review this product. I’ve been a long time wax convert, I can’t bear to mess around with shaving every day, but I could do without the trips to the local Salon and letting the beautician enjoy inflicting pain on me on a Saturday when I’d rather be anywhere but there! (Should probably let you know I did try waxing at home on a few occasions but it’s far too messy and really isn’t that simple).
So back to the epilator, I read my very clear instructions, popped my cool pack into the freezer and tried to forget about epilating for a couple of hours. Few hours later collected one said cold cool pack and got my epilator out and put the suggested easy head on – I wasn’t taking chances or trying to be a hero I started with the easy level. Mentioning heads here – they are really simple to change over – they just click in and out.
I popped the ice pack into the glove (supplied in pack) and held it onto my leg – the glove keeps your hand from getting cold, but cools your leg which is handy. Then the epilator – holding it at a 90 degree angle to my leg and moving from foot to knee, I really didn’t know why I was making such a fuss, after the first few strokes, it really didn’t hurt, I even stopped using the cool pack. The heads have massaging rollers on them which disguises any pain that epilating may cause.
I would suggest that if you are using the easy setting then do be patient and don’t expect all hairs to disappear after the first stroke, it did feel a bit like mowing the lawn, as you have to go over the same area a few times, but this is only because you are on the easy setting, this is to get you used to epilators. I have since tried the higher level heads and they work much quicker, and no difference apart from speed of removal.
This version of the easy start also comes with attachments so you can epilate your face, (I tried this years ago – with not much success) but this little machine did the business just fine.
Few other points about this model – handy light on the front which lights the way and shows up all the hairs without having to turn on all the lights in your room. It plugs into the socket so you won’t get caught short half way through without power. Comes with a handy little mesh bag to keep all the bit together.
Plus post epilation --tan still there and you can use this with much shorter hair than waxing, so no more horrible hairy legs. I’m a total convert now and would recommend this to anyone – waxer’s or shavers – you’re missing out. --Danielle Smith, Amazon.co.uk

I bought my first epilator about 15 years ago and am by-in-large a 'waxer'. The epilator was OK but never a substitute for waxing as it wasn't particularly effective and hurt a lot. I have recently bought the Braun X'elle Body & Face and epilators have obviously come a long way since 1990. This epilator is first rate. You can de-fuzz legs in about 10 mins and it comes with smaller epilator additions for underarms, bikini and face (should you need) which is great if you're short on time and don't want to mess about with waxing. It barely hurts (almost not at all) and I'm now possibly going to convert from waxing to epilation full-time. Well done Braun.

I used to own a Philips Satinelle Sensitive Epilator for the past 8 years.
I hate having to shave every day with prickly hair sticking out - so unlady like! Although I have a high pain threshold, I'm too skint to be waxed. An epliator makes perfect financal sense.
I've decided to purchase a new one coz the old one just miss alot of hairs, and I'm just getting pi**ed off having to spend ages epilating myself.
I am very suprised that Braun is much quieter than my old one (Philips one sounded like I'm DIY-ing), and it pick up more hairs and with the little spot light, I had a more clean finish! The design of this little beauty is much better, and it is not as heavy as the old one.
I have chosen this product for the face application. I've tried to use my old one for my upper lip area and I had a rash - it basicly removed a layer of skin!! But this one worked wonders!
If you have Asian skin like me, your hair tends to be more stronger and therefore your hair tends to grow back within a week (rather than 'up to 4 weeks' as it suggested)its not a fault of the product!
This thing comes with an ice-pack, so I'll be using it when I have a fever!! Haha!

I let the hairs on my legs grow for a few days while waiting for my epilator to be delivered. It did and so i tried it.
Because there were a lot of hair on each leg, it took 45 minutes on each leg up to my knee, this was using the starter head though. I stopped using the ice pack after the first stroke.
The next i epilated them again to catch any missed hairs. This time is started with the ice pack but using the normal head as opposed to the starter. It was much quicker and didn't feel any more painful.
Another morning I decided to try under my arms. This was the most pain I have ever felt in my life! Managed one using a sort of dabbing method which was basically all I could cope with. Thought no way I can do the other but realised how silly I would look with one hairy armpit! :-(
Got on with it and did the other arm. They both stung all day long and bled while i was epilating. Not a nice experience. But since then they do look much better.
I find showering now much easier, in and out rather than spending a long time shaving. Thought about trying my bikini line but not really that brave yet!
I suggest epilating once a week to catch any stray hairs.
Yes, I am very happy with my purchase and can recommend it to anyone.

Would like to add that the whole experience gets much easier as time goes on. The hairs grow back randomly so if you keep on top of it and epilate once a week the pain is minimal and can be done without the ice-pack. I have found that I get a lot of ingrowing hairs but have found a product called ingrow-go that appears to sort out the problem.
Would still recommend this to anyone.

Excellent but noisy
Bought this years ago, still works. A bit noisy. On the legs I find it's just as painful as waxing, but at least it's not sticky or messy.
