The ear is regarded as the most reliable place to get a consistent reading of the humans core body temperature. You should measure your child's temperature regularly to understand their normal reading, so you can recognise signs of fever early.

How do Braun Ear Thermometers Work?
1. Eardrum emits infrared radiation.
2. Infrared radiation passes through the lens filter.
3. Depending on the specifications (material, thickness, production process etc.) the lens filter lets pass a reduced amount of infrared radiation.
4. The sensor of the device receives a reduced amount of infrared radiation.
5. With a complex algorithm specially adjusted on the specifications of Braun lens filters the ThermoScan ear thermometer converts the infrared radiation into a temperature being shown on the display.
An infrared ear thermometer and the lens filter always work as a system. To get an accurate reading it is mandatory to align specifications of device and lens filter.
Hygienic
Cross contamination is virtually eliminated with use of LF40 disposable filters.

Braun Ear Thermometer Lens,

Excellent price and delivery. Braun's own description does not make it clear that the product code refers to the quantity in the packet rather than model - they only make the one thermometer lens! e.g.: LF40: 40 in the pack, LF20: 20 in the pack.

LF40 , PC40 , PC20 - explaining the difference (lack of),

This review is from: Braun Ear Thermometer Lens Filters LF40 - Pack of 40 (Personal Care)
This item can be found described as LF40 / PC40 thermoscan lenses. Reading through the reviews there seems to be some confusion with regards to the prefix's associated with these lenses i.e. LF40, PC40 , PC20, PC200, PC800 - some turning up in little white boxes and some in the colourful packaging.
The prefix letters only refer to the packaging that the lenses come in and the numbers refer to the quantity, the lenses are Identical, they are made in the USA by KAZ inc, distributed in the UK by Welch Allyn (Ireland) under licence from Braun(they also fit Welch Allyn branded thermometers) LF's come in the colourfull cardboard packs that hang on the displays in the shops with the picture of the smiling kid on them. The PC's come in little white boxes of 20 that fit in the slot / holder located inside your braun thermoscan thermometer hard case. They are often sold in bulk packs for use by professionals such as the NHS, doctors, nurserys etc,i believe PC stands for "Packed, cartridge" but I may be wrong there) PC20 = 1 box of 20 lenses, PC200 = a carton containing 10xPC20 boxes, PC800 = a carton containing 4 x PC200's. so LF are the same as PC apart from the box. If You look closely at the product image for LF40 you can see the edge of one of the 2 white PC20 boxes that make up the LF40 pack, So if you order an LF40 pack dont be too put off if you receive 2 x PC20 packs, they are the same thing just without the bit of card with the picture of the baby on Hope this is of help

Do what they're meant to!,

The lens filters are just replacement protective covers for the Braun thermometer. The product did not turn up looking like the picture shown though- I think they are the same product but they had a different product code and just turned up in 2 white boxes. Still, a lot cheaper than high street stores so I can't complain.
