I don't have much of a threshold when it comes to pain. The first (and last) time I ever braved a salon for a professional bikini wax, I think I may have blacked out for a few seconds. It was like being hit by lightning -and- kicked in the groin by a horse, simultaneously. So I decided quite quickly that waxing wasn't for me. Home wax is slightly more bearable, but who has the time for that kind of messy performance? Since then I've just stuck with shaving, although I did try my mum's epilator once, an old Remington model, and my god my eyes are still watering 10 years later.
I decided to give the Braun a whirl, though, based on the recommendation of a friend. Shaving takes up so much time, and it's pretty tough when you're tall and have to contort yourself in the shower to make sure you've nailed every last millimetre of leg. By the time you get out, you're a prune. So I gave myself a talking to, downed a stiff drink, and wrestled the Braun from its packaging. Needless to say, I pounced on the supplied ice glove and waited until it was ready before I braved the gadget. Now I don't know if the ice glove is some kind of miracle-worker or what, but after using it on my legs I didn't feel even the tiniest twinge when I got to work with the epilator. Seriously, no pain at all. I thought maybe I had a faulty machine, but I unscrewed my eyes and examined the legs and crikey, they were smooth! On closer inspection with the Smart Light switched on, the finish was a little uneven in places, but it was no big deal to give it another going over.
I was Impressed. Drunk on pain-free success, I decided to try the underarm attachment (accompanied by trusty ice glove), and I have to be honest, it -did- hurt a bit, but it was bearable. I've waxed my underarms before and I'd say the epilator is a good deal less traumatising, but it does take a bit of negotiating to get the area really smooth. If you're a bit awkward like me, with large hands, you might find yourself dropping the epilator a lot, so beware of hard tiled bathroom floors. I'm afraid I haven't had the bottle yet to try the bikini attachment. I'm content to just shave, and I found the shave option on the Braun was a nice little bonus. I did use the epilator to tidy up a few Unmentionable follicles on my neck, and it was far less painful than tweezing.
All in all, nothing but praise. This gadget's a little trooper and fantastic for legs. I wouldn't be without mine now. Thank you Braun!

I am not one for shaving as I don't like to have to do it so frequently and when you get growth it is all spiky.
I already have a much older Braun model and got this one so that I can get the job much faster and also do my arm pits & bikini line. I have so far used it on my legs. It is much faster then my older model and his is due to it having over twice the number of tweezers. It is very efficient at removing all the small hairs and you don't have to go over it as much. The discomfort is much less. I tried the softer cover that has the massage arms and I could hardly feel a thing! With the normal cover the discomfort is so much less than my old epilator. Remember I am used to using an epilator; so if you are new to this sort of device you would have to use the massage attachment and follow the instructions about using the ice pack etc.
Update to review.....>>>I have now done my arm pits for the first time today.>>>. PAINFUL!!!!! I stretched my skin with one hand and used the device with the other. Yes this is possible. This reduced the pain. After 5 mins you do actually get used to the pain which is what the manual says. I think that after a few uses you would get used to it. At the end of the painful event on both arm pits... I was VERY happy with my smooth arms. Seeing that it will take 4 weeks to grow back that means only doing it 12 times a year. I am not going to try my bikini as I am too scared of the pain even though I know the results will be great. If/When I am brave enough to use it on my bikini line I will update this review.
I feel this is well worth it as you are saving yourself loads of time and money getting a wax. No need to spend time booking an appointment and going to the salon. Just get it out once a month and that is it!!!
Update to review II...>> This is a few months later. I am now used to using it on my armpits and after 2 uses it does not hurt that much now. I find it so easy to do my arm pits and legs and just need to do it every 3-4 weeks which is great!!!! It is wonderful being as smooth as a baby for such a long time. I am plucking up courage to do bikini line.....

This is the second Braun epilator I've had (being from a quite expensive range). It has many negative and positive points:
POSITIVE:
* Is a little smaller so easier to hold and store than the longer model (this allows for better angles).
* Actually is alot less painful than the previous models (slightly less noisy).
* Comes with many attachments for several different parts of the body (bikini line, face, underarms).
* Comes with a shaver head to trim hair down
* Smart light is great in any lighting conditions.
* Ice glove does help soothe skin if you're not used to the pain before and after (however, use of this requires some planning ahead of time). Ice glove can come in handy for headaches and easing injury swelling too so you'll want to plan ahead
* No fiddly controls.
* Massages as it runs so that it quickly soothes and diverts pain.
* Cuts down on the need for excessive shaving 2-3 times a week.
NEGATIVE:
* Can take quite a bit of time to epilate one leg; definitely not a quick fix solution to doing your legs before dashing out on a date. (If you have quite large legs, would recommend epilating one-to-two days in advance of any event as this WILL eat up your time).
* Two-pronged plug comes WITHOUT an adaptor so you'll have go to buy one.
* Doesn't get every single hair and you still end up going over the same part several times.
* Claims to pick up hair as small as a grain of sand but doesn't always.
* Will occasionally clip hairs altogether rather than tweeze them out, causing uneven stubble and the need for a razor shave regardless.
* The noise is embarrassingly overwhelming and people will keep popping in the room to find out what you're doing (remember and do your bikini line and underarm behind locked doors if you don't live alone).
* Pulling out hair can lead to infection and can cause spots with an ingrown to surface in embarassing and painful places (especially true of the underarms! Rub a little diluted Dettol to sensitive areas after epilation to prevent infection).
* Can still nick the skin, which does hurt more than the epilation process itself.

Fantastic
