What‘s the difference between foil and rotary shavers?

Do you have any recommendations on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
Braun recommends you shave before you take a shower. After a few days without shaving, for example during the weekend, you should trim your stubble before you shave. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. Hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to your skin. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.
How often do I need to change the shaver head?
Braun recommends replacing all cutter parts every 18 months. A replacement part indicator is included in the display to ensure you know when to exchange the cutter parts, in order for your shaver to always stay at 100% performance.
Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phone or laptops?
Memory effect is when rechargeable batteries lose their maximum energy capacity after they are repeatedly recharged after being only partially discharged. Series 7 shavers use a Li-Ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting battery available for your Braun shaver.

For those times, this is a really excellent tool. It has a chunky body, with a nice non-slip rubberised grip. The head pivots independently from the body, and the foil itself moves in and out. These together ensure that there is always good contact with the face. There is a decent sized pop out trimmer which conventiently stands well proud of the body of the shaver, making it very easy to use. The shaver has different speeds, referred to as intensive and sensitive. I can't really tell much difference, although with my very bristly beard, I find I use the shaver all the time on intensive.
The rechargeable battery life is good, I've now been using the unit for two weeks and haven't needed to recharge it.
The feature I really like is the fact that the shaver can be cleaned under a running tap. In the past I've never felt I could get electric shavers properly clean, but with this its no problem, pop out the foil and run it all under the tap - very easy.
So, I'll never move away fully from wet shaving, but if you are a fan of electric shaving, or want an electric razor as a back up, I can recommend this product.
While the closeness of the shave is actually better than I've been able to get with rotary shavers, it does have a number of drawbacks. First off, its more unwieldly and less comfortable to hold than the more ergonomic Philips shavers. Secondly, it is incredibly noisy, compared to other shavers I've owned. Finally, when my stubble grows back, it is a LOT tougher and more bristly, whereas with the Philips shavers, it stayed reasonably soft.
The micro-vibration feature is supposed to make shaving more comfortable, but I just found it made my skin heat up, making the experience less comfortable. This effect is lessed by using the less "intense" modes, but shaving quality suffers.
Perhaps being used to rotary shavers, it took me a few attempts to get the best results, as you have to angle it differently for different parts of your face. I didn't find the shaver head tilt feature very useful, finding it easier to just move / angle the shaver as necessary, with the head locked in the "straight" position.
Also, I don't know if its just a fault with this particular unit, but it doesn't seem to charge fully. I only have to use it a few times before the Low Charge light comes on. I held off recharging it until the battery was completely flat (it doesn't gradually wind down like a Philips, but instead just stops suddenly) and found it lasted for 8 shaves.
In summary, I'd say its not a bad shaver and if you're more used to foil shavers, you may rate it more highly. Personally, I think I'll be going back to Philips when I next need a new shaver.
