I've put off buying an electric or sonic toothbrush for years, thinking that it was just another gimmick - and an expensive one at that. However talking to my dentist about the merits or otherwise of electric versus sonic toothbrushes compared to manual brushing recently, he told me that (proper) research by the Dental Association has shown that these toothbrushes are more efficient than the ordinary manual method. But, that the difference between the two non-manual types (electric v sonic) in terms of efficient cleaning is negligible.
So I read various reviews inc those on Amazon of the different types of rechargeable electric toothbrushes, whether rotary (oscillating) or sonic, the reviews showed that together with the chargers they required quite a bit of storage space and also indicated that they generally failed altogether after about two years of use. However, battery powered (not rechargeable) electric toothbrushes are in the main a lot cheaper to buy than the sonic type whether the sonic ones are battery powered or rechargeable and the motors are more reliable and seem to last longer.
The battery powered brushes also take up less space and run on two AA batteries, which could be rechargeable ones, if you've got an AA charger for other uses ie camera etc.
So I bought the battery powered Braun Oral Advance B400 which comes complete with two Duracell AA batteries ready to use, and one brush head. I've been using it for some weeks now.

The slightly different brushing technique takes a bit of getting used to as you only need to place the (oscillating) brush head against your teeth and make a small circular action around the teeth without applying pressure. And to avoid splash, switch the toothbrush on once it's inside your mouth.

I bought this as a little christmas present for my daughter ( along with many other things) and it has been great. It does exactly what it says on the packet, in fact so pleased I bought another two, and so far batteries have lasted 2 months and still going strong after using twice a day. I must say the service from the supplier was brilliant, ordered one day, arrived next day, first class, would definately buy from this company again.

Like many others I have found that the Braun-Oral-B rechargeable brushes give up about 6 months after the warranty ends which equates to 100-150 charges. Buy one of these, a cheap AA battery charger and some rechargeable AAs (It takes two of them) and you will save money all the way. When the batteries die and stop being rechargeable you just get some new ones at fer less than the cost of a new rechargeable brush. And it cleans your teeth.

By far the best battery operated toothbrush on the market. Powerful and reliable, with simple to change batteries. Long lasting, handle and readily available variety of brush heads. The only battery toothbrush worth buying.

This is the best battery toothbrush I ever used, better than many rechargeables, but with convenience of portability & longer life due to ability to change batteries

Having used the rechargable version at home for a couple of years that I feel gives me a better brushup in the morning and evening, I missed it when on holiday. This excellent product filled that gap and I now enjoy the luxury of using the same brushing style all year round.

Bought this as a "stocking filler gift" for my wife at Christmas (not the only thing!). She is very happy with it. The fact that it is battery powered as opposed to rechargable is an advantage to us as it us not yet another thing that has to be plugged in (what with mobiles, cameras etc).

Item arrived promptly.
I needed to replace my rechargable toothbrush when it would no longer hold a charge, even though it was mechanically OK.
This toothbrush runs on two AA batteries (supplied). I don't know how long they will last for, but I intend to use rechargables when they run out, so the brush should last alot longer than the last one.
So far it works well and I would recommend.
