My Husband bought me the Braun Multiquick MR6550 M CA Hand Blender for Christmas in 2006. (it was only £24.99) but looks exactly the same as the stabmixer. It is still going strong after 3 years. I use it loads. The small basin is great for small quantities of indredients like ginger and garlic, nuts. The main blender attachment is great for soups and de-lumping sauces! The motor detaches from the other parts allowing the blending part can go in the dishwasher. I don't use the whisk attachment much as I have a hand mixer and, a more recently inherited, Kenwood Chef which I use more as I tend to cook in greater quantities. He bought this to replace a traditional all-in-one handblender which I had had for over a decade but was still going strong.
I would strongly recommend this product although I am not sure I would pay that price.

I have had this item for four years now and it is brilliant. Those flimsy looking blades make short work of practically anything and it's perfect for whizzing up anything for your babies including roasted meats etc. It's brilliant for spices and herbs and sofrittos. The whisk attachment is OK but you're much better off with the Braun hand whisk for egg whites and cake batters but for liquidising and chopping this beats anything else that I've tried and you can get spares easily should you need them. Take heed of the instructions not to put the jug lid in the dishwasher though.....I didn't and after three years had to replace the whole thing! That'll teach me to be such a bloke and ignore the instructions!

There are many stick blenders, from "no brand" supermarket specials at £10.00 to heavy duty catering machines at over £200. The Braun range sits nicely in the middle: based on our experience they do exactly as the maker claims and go on doing so for a long time.
We bought this to replace an early model of Braun Stick Blender from the mid 1990s. The only reason to replace it was damage to the speed control caused by dropping it on the floor....otherwise it would still be in use.
The Braun range has lots of models including many attachments. I tend to believe that one machine can't do everything, and so we got this model with only 2 attachments.
The balloon whisk is excellent and much easier to use for beating one or two eggs whites than getting out and setting up the Kenwood Chief.
The chopper works better than I expected and again it is easier to use than getting ot and setting up the large Magimix.
One word of caution: the supplier we bought this from is in Germany, so the model is supplied with a moulded on European 2 pin plug. This means you must either use an adaptor or cut off the European plug and fit a UK 3 pin plug: for some that may be a disadvantage. Our cooker control panel has a European socket built in, so for us the European plug was a real advantage!

... and - if you don't cook in great quantities (eg if cooking for two or three), pretty much does away with the need for a food processor. Read more
