Let's face it - you either like brass band music or you don't. I love it. I enjoy almost every kind of music, but if you want to bring a tear to my eye, you'll need a brass band. Cultural and generation thing I suppose - I was brought up on this stuff.
A lot of CDs must be measured against the price. But sometimes they're cheap enough simply to buy on spec. This is one such - I paid under four pounds for it. For that I got great performances and a choice of stuff ranging from the familiar to the less so. But the thing that brass band music has in common with classical music (IMHO) is that you can enjoy different performances by different artists. So if you have this music by other bands, go for it anyway - you'll enjoy the comparisons.
Which is all the long way round to saying - quite simply - if you enjoy brass bands, then buy this. Already have some of the tracks? What's your problem at this price? It's not even worth downloading individual Amazon mp3's.
This is a great CD. Buy it before this kind of music - REAL folk music - vanishes as the communities that engendered it have.
