This was the first album of Laura's incredible career and, what a debut it was. Perhaps her most famous track "Gloria" is the main selling point of the product but dont assume every track will be in the same vein. Laura was a versatile artist and was capable of tackling a variety of musical styles.
The song perhaps nearest to "Gloria" is "Living A Lie" which is a punchier piece of american rock with that unmistakeable Branigan roar. "Loving You Baby" is another hard edged track but well worthy of being on this debut album. The ballads here, "Maybe I Love You" and "If You Loved Me" are simply class, while the self-composed "I Wish We Could Be Alone" more than holds its own. "All Night With Me" was also a single and deservedly so, its one of those songs that suits Laura so well boasting a late night piano bar feel, while "Down Like A Rock" is almost country rock. "Please Stay Go Away" is similar in style but gives side two a bit of a kick being stuck amoung the equisite ballads. There really isnt a duff track here and, for a debut album, its a pretty fine collection of songs which, have aged well considering its a product of the early 80's. When you've heard this, check out Laura's other work as this lady evolved and performed so much more than the two songs she's best known for, "Gloria" and "Selfcontrol".
