Product Description

Jessica’s had the nightmares for as long as she can remember. Nightmares of being judged for people who have died, of being branded by the angels. Her friends and family think she’s a crazy because of it all. Yet she carries the mark of the condemned, seared into the back of her neck, and hides it and herself away from the world.

But when two men she can’t ignore enter her life everything changes, including the nightmares. The two of them couldn’t be more different. She will do anything to be with one of them. Even tell him the truth about angels, why she never sleeps, and the scar on the back of her neck. But one of the two has set events into motion what will pull her toward her own judgment and turn her into the object of her greatest fear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Indie fantasy novel 19 April 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
If I could give this 4.5 stars, I think that would be a more appropriate rating. I really enjoyed reading this book, but there were a few little niggles that prevent me from giving it a full 5 stars. One of the so-called 'twists' in the plot was honestly, blindingly obvious and I saw it coming well before I was half way through the novel, but apart from that the story line was good. There was also one occasion where a passage was almost repeated - a part of the storyline that had been mentioned a couple of pages before (I won't give too much away, but about a feather), was re-written within another passage, which shows slightly lacking editing skills. However, despite these imperfections, I was still able to really enjoy the novel, and will still read the second in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine if your expectations are low 10 Mar 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This was the first book I downloaded on Kindle and I chose it because it was cheap. Sorry, but that is exactly how it felt too! To be fair the story was interesting but it was so badly written. I felt like I was reading something written by a school kid, which is fine if that's what you are expecting, but it's not the kind of writing style I would normally choose to read. The grammar was poor, the flow was amateurish and there were spelling mistakes (who did the proofreading?) as well as inappropriate use of words.

I hope that the author's style improves as she matures. I was convinced I was reading a novel that had been published by the author herself as I could not believe that a publishing house would put something this weak into print.

2.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear... 10 Jan 2013

Based on the reviews, you could be forgiven for thinking this would be good. It's not. The idea is good but the writing is poor, lacks flow and plot devices are often contrived and horribly obvious. Like another reviewer, I was shocked that this made it into print and was not just published electronically. Probably ought not to have been so surprised though with publishers' current passion to make money out of "soft horror".

If you're looking for a truly great angel story, pass this up and buy Laini Taylor's "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" and the follow-up "Days of Blood and Starlight".
