This book is very typical of Mike Gayle's style. I started reading the book Friday night - now two days later it's finished, and I am left with a warm satisfied feeling. As usual with Mike Gayle, this book is a look into relationships. At times I felt happy and elated, at other times I was sobbing for the characters. Highly recommend this book!

Another excellent helping of Mike Gayle, just as good, if not better than his others.
Witty, full of insight into the workings of the male mind, Gayle expresses the confusion of male/female and male/male friendships brilliantly.

Oh, and any author who manages to write a whole page about the great 80s rock legends Van Halen, deserves 6 stars!

Gayle does it again 2 May 2006

Great, fab, wonderful. I have read all Mike Gayles books and find myself waiting for his next title to publish........so you can imagine my joy when i realised "A Brand New Friend" had been released in time for my holiday, I read it in a day! You just have to know what happens. It was the usual mix of humour and raw emotion, i found myself laughing out loud, and at times just aching for the predicament of the characters. Another great, great book.....keep them coming. Highly recommended

Disappointing - perhaps it's only for blokes?
I enjoy a bit of chic lit on holiday, so I thought I'd give lad lit a go, and get a bit of an insight into how the other half thinks. But it turned out not to work like that. Read more

Perhaps more believable if written by a teenager
I wanted to read this book until the bitter end in the hope that it might offer an ending that might be better than the rest of the book, but this was never going to happen and I... Read more

Great book.
Mike Gayle is always a good read. I read this book in a couple of days. Nice easy reading for thirtysomethings and from the point of view of a guy.

Enjoyable
I've read a few of his now and enjoyed them all. 4.5 stars would suit this nicely. It's difficult to tell if he aims his writing at men or women because he captures both gender's... Read more

Wonderful
Brother of newsreader Philip, Mike Gayle is that unusual male writer who can write chick lit for women that men love to read too... and I've loved every one of his previous books. Read more
