If you are used to the Middleton press series you will be aware that these are largely a collection of old photographs - bit of written introduction, an extract of old maps but largely photographs.
But don't let that put you off; this is a tremendous doorway into the past, especially as apart from the Hertford East branch the rest of the branches covered here are no more. Starting at Broxbourne, they follow the lines logically to Hertford, onto Welwyn and then onto St. Albans, covering the Buntingford branch at the end.
If I had a tiny criticism it would be very minor - sometimes you wanted a 'now' photograph to orientate yourself and understand the huge changes but it doesn't mar an excellent book.
Useful if you are into local history or railways
