As with all Brambly Hedge books the illustrations are at least as if not more important than the story. Full marks for the illustrations; the ice grotto is beautiful. The storyline however is weak and the chldren weren't as engaged as with some of the others.

One of the best things about this book, and the other Brambly Hedge titles, is the pictures. They appear on every page in full colour, and are beautiful in every detail. Children love them because there's always something new to spot and you don't grow tired of them. The story is great fun and the mice are lovely characters.
