I do love all of Brahms' Symphonies but It's taken me a while to really appreciate his third and fourth. This 2012 recording featuring both of them and played by Valery Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra on their LSO label has brought me much closer to them.

Quite simply Gergiev really draws out Brahms' beautiful tunes in both Symphonies, especially in the strings and woodwinds which are so beautifully rich and expressive.

These beautiful recordings of Brahms' Symphonies 3 and 4 show that the great Valery Gergiev is at home in German musical repertoire and not just Russian like Tchaikovsky or Prokofiev.

this fabulous recording follows on from symphonies 1 and 2,and completes,an essential additon to your collection,a sound not to be forgotten, clarity and warmth, the LSO sound is so distinctive, there are many recordings to choose from, but this is wonderful. The third is gloriouos, especially. woodwind, flawless, backed by sensitive string playing.Dont hesitate get it

I'd actually forgotten about these versions which I had on vinyl many years ago. Listening to them today was like welcoming back an old friend. I think these are very good interpretations and well worth having. I particularly like the 4th which is played with much energy and captures the spirit of the piece.

I've taken 1 star off because these are old recordings and a bit thin. They are much better listened to via speakers than via headphones!
