Product Description

Product Description

Bradley Wiggins is a very British sporting hero: unassuming, private, given to a sardonic sense of humour and a strong appreciation for those that have supported him throughout – his family and fans. He is also a fiercely determined competitor, a supremely passionate athlete and an eloquent ambassador for his beloved sport. Not to mention a phenomenal cyclist.

Wiggo first shot to attention as a 20-year-old, taking a bronze medal in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Six Olympic medals later, and after one of cycling's most tumultuous periods as it battled the dope cheats – Wiggins himself suffered in this war as his team withdrew from the 2007 Tour de France after one of his teammates was caught – Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky assembled in Liege, Belgium for the start of the 2012 Tour.

Those 12 years and the weeks that followed - from the Tour de France to the incredible gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics - are retold in this Guardian Short, a unique collection of world-class sports writing featuring the likes of William Fotheringham, Donald McRae – and Bradley Wiggins himself.

These Guardian shorts are a good way to catch up on a career or topic, as they take all the articles written about the subject and put them in chronological order with a few linking paragraphs - this works to an extent, and it is interesting what was written at the time about a person or situation. However they are no substitute for a good biography, but only if you want more depth and flow, otherwise they inform quickly and have a use.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bradley Wiggins - A Life On A Bike 15 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It was my mistake buying this book - the glamour of Bradleys successes blinded me to expectations of the book.
Basically it was composed of extracts (guardian shorts) and they didnt blend into a time-line that well anyway, my mistake was in the word 'shorts', usually I find such are enclosed like small self contained stories - in this book they were from newspaper/media which are written in a more , like cryptic format, almost like pages from a diary.
Then they have to be put together to make, I was expecting a career time-line, a reasonable structured book .

Didnt work for me!
