The 45cm width will give you just the right coverage to go over and under the board. You need enough fabric to wrap the board and be able to tighten the strings underneath to keep the cover firm on the board.

As in my review yes this item certainly does need the additional foam 'underlay' and this really should be made clear in the product description. On the packaging of this item by Brabantia, it clearly states that it has to be used in conjunction with the foam sheet beneath which is about 1/4inch thick. I think this additional item is available here through Amazon. Tip. Once you have got this underfoam, retain it when the top cover wears out and re use it as it lasts much longer than the cover! Yes it is fire retardant up to a certain extant. I did not burn it yet. It is much better than the normal cotton covers. It makes the ironing easier if you have some extra padding underneath it, as this cover is only 2 mm thick.

There is a size guide on the brabantia web site. Try this http://www.brabantia.com/int_en/laundry-drying-ironing/ironing-board/ B Length is 124 so yours is a bit short but you could fold it. You may need to remove the iron stand at the blunt end. 38 width is OK. I did write some more detailed notes on fitting on a review recently (29 Sept.)

While the cover is excellent and fits my board perfectly, I think you may need a size smaller than "B" (my board is 121 x 37 total measurement)
