Book Description

30 Jun 2011
In the second Boystown collection, Chicago private investigator Nick Nowak finds himself involved with a young man who murdered his stepfather but refuses to assist in his own defense. He's hired to find the murderer of a dead porno star, and, in a case that traps him between the two men he loves, searching for a serial killer's only living victim. Set in the second half of 1981, Nick's stories see him juggling his deepening relationship with Detective Bert Harker against the return of his ex, Daniel Laverty. Which man will he choose? And will he be able to make any sort of choice at all? Stories include Little Boy Silent, Little Boy Blond and Little Boy Loved. Marshall Thornton is an award-winning author, playwright and screenwriter living in Long Beach, California. Author of the Boystown detective series, he holds an MFA in screenwriting from UCLA. While there he received the Carl David Memorial Fellowship and was recognized in the Samuel Goldwyn Writing awards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ebook Addict Reviews 4 Nov 2010

I really enjoyed Boystown 2. Marshall Thronton has a way telling a story that keeps you on your toes. I enjoyed Boystown 1 but I thought Boystown 2 was even better. I liked Nick a lot more than I did in the first book. He came across real and less of a player and I found it easier to relate to Nick this time around.

All three stories in Boystown 2 are equally enjoyable. While Nick does appear to be trying to make things work in his relationship with Bert Harker--the cop he meets in the third story of the first book--the situtation is complicated by the appearance of his ex-lover. Nick still has a hard time saying no to any offer that comes along. There is still a lot of promiscuous sex--not as much as in book one or maybe I just became more accustomed to Nick's ways ;)

I think Marshall Thronton falls into the category of acquired taste. You are either going love or hate the Boystown stories. As a rule, Boystown isn't what I'd usually enjoy but for some reason Nick Nowak has captured my attention and kept it. I very much want to find out what adventures Nick is going to find himself in next. I was upset with how the third story ended. It was a cliffhanger ending and I'm not a fan of those endings at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Boystown 1" an interesting read 23 Nov 2012

"Boystown 2" picks up where "Boystown 1" left off. In addition to the protagonist, other men that he had various dealings with in the first collection re-appear. Nick, the protagonist, comes across as manly and tough and sexy as well. The story is engaging and I will be reading "Boystown 3" very soon.
3.0 out of 5 stars No way! 16 Jun 2012

No way!

The story in the last of these three novellas ended halfway through. It just ended!

I like his writing and I like the way he puts a plot together, but doing that - ie simply cutting off a novel half way through - is pretty weak.

Its insulting to his readers.
