Product Description

Boys On Film crosses the Atlantic to bring you a bevy of intriguing, sexy and genre-busting shorts from the land of the free. Porn star turned actor Brent Corrigan's homo-hungry closet-case lies in wait in Los Angeles, a trio of emo boys get more than they bargained for in the forests of Maine, the joy of 'sexting' is revealed on the streets of California, two high school boys in Philadelphia confront one another's sexuality at the pool and an infamous bus terminal cum cruising hot spot is the backdrop to a young man's coming out in the Big Apple. With award-winning shorts from the East coast to West side, there is more to these American boys than meets the eye.

Dare Dir. Adam Salky (16mins)

Starring Adam West, Michael Cassidy After play practice one night for the senior production of 'A Streetcar Named Desire', backstage boy Ben gives Johnny, the play's Stanley, a ride home to help him with his lines. When a bottle of champagne gets opened, the boys end up in Johnny's swimming pool, where everyday boundary lines quickly blur.

In The Closet Dir. Jody Wheeler (14mins)

Starring Brent Corrigan, JT Tepnapa An anonymous bedroom inside a typical apartment somewhere in Los Angeles. A pair of young men enter, one having scored a one-night stand, the other giving away little as to his true intentions. Little does one of them know that a homo-hungry closet-case lies in wait, and it hasn t been fed in quite some time... Porn star Brent Corrigan whips out his acting chops and pulls it off in an entertaining B-movie knees-up with considerable bite.

Area X Dir. Dennis Shinners (USA) 15mins

Starring Matt Schunerman, Antony Raymond Paul's dad unexpectedly picks him up from work. He then a hooker. After dropping them off at a seedy roadside motel, Paul's father hands him two hundred dollars and that he mustn't come out until he's a man. These are just a few of the bizarre events that Paul recounts to Marco, a seductive hustler he meets in a dicey bar on a hidden street underneath New York City's infamous Port Authority Bus Terminal, also known as 'Area X'.

The Young and Evil Dir. Julian Breece (15mins)

Starring Vaughn Lowery, Mark Berry This visceral short film follows the zero-to-60 path of Karel, a young African-American who is determined to seduce an older man, an HIV prevention advocate, into giving him the virus. The oft-taboo issues of having gay sex but not using protection are amplified by taking place in the African-American community, a daring approach to a controversial topic that landed the film a Sundance nomination.

Dish :) Dir. Brian Krinsky (15mins)

Starring Matthew Monge, Jeff Martin, Octavio Altamirano Emo kids Israel and Louie walk around their East Los Angeles neighbourhood dishing and 'sexting' about their high school classmates. After listening to Louie boast about his sexual escapades, Israel decides he has some catching up to do.

Bugcrush Dir. Carter Smith (36mins)

Starring Josh Caras, Donald Cumming Bugcrush is the story of Ben, a small-town high school loner, whose fascination with Grant, a dangerously seductive new kid, leads him into something much more sinister than he could ever have imagined.

Astoria, Queens Dir. Kyle Coker (22mins)

Starring Aaron Michael Davies, James Heffron, Sangeeta Parekh Inspired by 'The Wizard of Oz', four Kansas City twentysomething misfits navigate their new lives in the Emerald City of New York. Newly single Thom, our Dorothy, discovers NYC in a second 'coming out party'. Jimboy, the brainless Scarecrow, wants to become the first gay white rap superstar. Anisha, the workaholic Tinman, searches for a heart and Callie, a whiskey drinking Cowardly Lion, lacks the courage to make it as an actress. Featuring music from Heloise and the Savoir Faire.

All American Boys 5 Nov 2009
Format:DVD
In general it hasn't been a good year for new gay themed English language films, the best being Greek Pete A Year In The Life Of A Rent Boy [DVD] [2009] and Dream Boy [DVD] [2008]. Other than those the films have generally been quite dull, or just plain clichéd. Greek Pete definitely was the most creative of the features and gets my vote for the absolute best gay feature film of the year.

But 2008 saw the return of gay short films to the UK and it was well worth the long wait! The Boys On film series has really been something else entirely and has given us many shorts that are far better than most of the feature films that we've seen this year. And number three in the series is no exception!

BUG CRUSH is one scary movie, a little bit too real perhaps and that's what makes it so creepy, it's worth five stars just for this film alone, but don't watch it just before bedtime...

Also on the dark side is IN THE CLOSET, a great little two hander starring everyone's favourite All American Boy, Brent Corrigan and J.P. Tepnapa who gay sci-fi fans will recognise from STAR TREK: NEW VOYAGES, the web series which has been running for some years now. So two well know names get it together for a frightening little story with a "sting" in its tail.

THE YOUNG AND EVIL presents us with a black teenage "bug-chaser" living on the edge of the seedier side of life in LA. Not for the faint hearted, this is really in your face and brutal.

AREA X takes place in one of those seedy off the beaten track gay bars that you find in many in many US cities, this one feels like Philadelphia and tells a cautionary tale of getting too close to someone in the bar rest room. At least this has a "happy" ending.

The four friends in ASTORIA QUEENS have all arrived in the Big Apple from Kansas, making a new life for themselves in Manhattan. This is actually the pilot for a new gay TV series, its fast, sharp, funny and give a great portrait of gay twenty-something life in New York City.

And finally DISH :), a beautiful warm hearted story set within the Latino community of Los Angeles. It's basically a 15 year old boy with his 16 year old friend dishing the dirt on the sex life of all of their friends. And when the opportunity to actually have sex arises...

This is a great collection, a strong balance of dark and light, it's got films to scare you and films to make you cry with laughter, it'll make a great stocking filler for friends this Xmas..

lots of surprises 3 Nov 2009
Format:DVD
I haven't seen the other two boys on film dvds but think I'll need to check them out because I really liked this collection. Not really seen short films before, or very many, so this was a pleasant surprise. Bugcrush is probably going to be everyone's favourite, but I really enjoyed Dare which is very sweet and cute, about the geek who has a crush on the jock at school. They hang out in a swimming pool and let's just say that things get very tense and interesting from then on! Astoria Queens was very quirky and funny, nothing very sexy about it, just a lot of good jokes and appealing actors. Area X was adorable, about a young man/boy who meets an older guy at a bar because his father wants him to lose his virginity. They start making out in the toilet but I won't give away too much about that one. In The Closet is a good bit of fun with quite a bit of nudity with the beautiful and sensual Brent Corrigan. Will be interesting to see if he does more films like this. Dish is extremely endearing - a pair of fifteen year old boys talk about crushes all day, before one of them goes to meet a hunky older guy. The ending is not what you'd expect, something I've noticed in all these films, you can never predict the ending!

All in all, a nice selection of sweet, sexy and edgy films, full of surprises.

This is a great pick n' mix of some of the best American gay short films in recent years (trust me, I've seen quite a few!), the Boys On Film collection continues to challenge and entertain. Highlights are festival favourites Dare and Bugcrush, while porn star Brent Corrigan turns in a surprising performance as a deadly one night stand in In The Closet (yes, it's cheesy, but there's something about his acting that is very impressive, which I wasn't expecting). Spunky charm via `sexting' (chatting someone up with text messages) is applied to Van Sant tropes in Dish, and New York set comedy Astoria Queens, which rounds out the collection, is funnier than Friends if you ask me, although you need to pay attention as the characters talk really quickly and sassily!

Oh and I mustn't forget to mention The Young and Evil which is like nothing you've seen before. Very sexy but makes you think long and hard. Won't ruin it for you by revealing what it is about.

I liked this collection more than the first one, and about as much as the second one which I thought was very good.

If I would rank them, I think maybe this one would come top of the three, only because I really didn't like the Australian short film on volume two. But then, I might change my mind!
