Early reports suggest this single might not even sell enough to make the top five, which is a great shame as I think it's a terrific piece of work. As so many artists are doing nowadays, "Boys" has been freshened up with a new remix accompanied by an attractive, sexy, not to mention, costly video featuring stars such as Mike Myers. The new version, otherwise titled "CO-ED Remix", features vocals from Pharrell Williams, best known from rock group N.E.R.D. Although his appearance was a good asset to the song, I personally feel he had too big a part and overshadowed Spears in aspects. The title "Britney Spears and Pharrell Williams" opposed to "Britney Spears featuring Pharrell Williams" was more appropiate in my view. It's a vast improvement on what was a bland album version, computeresque noises and, of course, Pharrell's vocals transform the track into an interesting, original tune.
On the B-side front, I was very disapointed. We're given an instrumental and album version opposed to any new material, remixes or even an enhanced section. This may explain partly why Britney's performance on the charts isn't how it used to be, decent B-sides make a good ingredient for a succesful single. In fact, if I hadn't bought this whilst in it's introductory offer I doubt I would've bothered.
Overall, a decent listen with slight flaws.
