A Good 'Starting point' Guide for growing boys, 19 Jan 2009
I have been searching for a book to break some growing up facts of Life to my son - a niave 10 year old. I wanted to start the subject slowly I did not really want to get into the realms of Full Sexual Intercourse, pregancy, periods, gay relationships etc. just yet, so if you are looking for something that explicit, then this is not the book for you.
What it does deal with is a more hollistic look at boys growing up, so there is only one chapter looking at sexual issues ie genital changes, morning surprises, changing body, shape and size, body hair, voice changes, skin changes, emotional changes etc. - No explicit female anatomy stuff.
The other chapters discuss care of the changing body - showers, shaving, dental braces, appearance etc. Changing body in the outside world ie studying, sports, sport safety, etc. Changes at home ie Feelings towards family, curfews and parent rules, family stress, dovorce etc.
Changing feelings and friends ie peer pressure, friendship skills, bullying, staying safe, self esteem and emotional changes.
The book had lots of little 'know your Facts' and 'quick tip' boxes, with coloured cartoon images, and had a fun, light approach to make the young reader feel at ease.
I would say ideal for 9-11/12 year olds who are getting ready to deal changes in bodies and emotions. There is nothing in here that is going to scare them and would be a good stepping stone towards a more detailed, and book with more sexual informtion and female growing up information. 12+ boys will perhaps be ready for more sexual info. than this book provides, but the relationship bits are still good for boys up to about 14-15, as the book touches lightly on studying and thoughts of going to college.

Boys Body Book, 22 Jun 2009
This book was ideal for my ten year old son. It touches on emotional, social and briefly on some sexual issues. It's well written and aimed at children pre-teen I would say. It still has an element of innocence about it but touches on some more serious issues but in a concise and factual way. Easy to read through and fine specific info.

Boy's Body Book, 2 Sep 2009
My 12 year old did not want to discuss ''stuff'' with us, so we suggested this book, after doing a bit of research.
He is more than capable of understanding the content, and we found it was aimed at the right level for him at this point in his life.
