The year is 1984, and on the Rural East Coast of New Zealand "Thriller" is changing kid's lives. Inspired by the Oscar nominated Two Cars, One Night, BOY is the hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age tale about heroes, magic and Michael Jackson.
BOY is a dreamer who loves Michael Jackson. He lives with his brother ROCKY, a tribe of deserted cousins and his Nan. Boy's other hero, his father, ALAMEIN, is the subject of Boy's fantasies, and he imagines him as a deep sea diver, war hero and a close relation of Michael Jackson (he can even dance like him). In reality he's "in the can for robbery".
When Alamein returns after 7 years away, Boy is forced to confront the man he thought he remembered, finding his own potential and learn to get along without the hero he had been hoping for.

This is a truly fantastic film. Wonderfully funny, cleverly scripted, brilliantly acted and a great story. An absolute must see film.

So amusing. Totally kiwi. Saw it twice at the cinema, so good. Havent met anyone who didn't like it. I badly want to buy it, but £26! I'll wait till christmas!
Set in east cape, north island.. near raukokore in the 80's. Kid Michael jackson fan waits for his hero dad to get out of jail and take him away on adventures. His dad turns up.. the story begins.. wont ruin it
Silly, emotional, retro style (got to love the mikey j references).. such a good comedy. His dad (director of film too) is the highlight of the film.

I enjoyed the quirky Eagle vs Shark and watched this not realising it was the same director, but all the quirkiness is there again; this time even better! This was an absolute joy to watch; the acting by the two lead children is stunning. This is one film I'll be watching more than once. (More information can be found at IMDB)

Great movie, beautifully shot and acted. Nice to see a New Zealand film of such calibre, would like to see more.

Brilliant
A funny and heart-warming story. Well written and directed. Great casting. A wonderful coming of age film. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
