An enchanting tale of fairies and how they protect the natural world, stunningly illustrated by up-and-coming British artist Jessica Albarn. In the garden behind a small cottage grows an ancient oak tree that hides a secret. The young boy who lives in the cottage couldn't care less about the tree and certainly doesn't know it is enchanted. But all is about to change, as the fairies living in the oak are about to cast a spell that will change his life forever...

5.0 out of 5 stars just beautiful 14 Oct 2010
By so-old
A most beautiful book, from the textured cover, fine detailed illustrations to the printed acetate pages. Makes a lovely gift but also one to keep forever. More than just a fairy tale.

Definately an extra special book to give to a child.
A beautiful book and a story that is dark and moral like fairy tales used to be.
Every page is a visual treat. My children loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Message and Book Design 13 Dec 2010

I enjoyed this book for the hidden messages about kindness, understanding, and thoughtfulness. I really don't want to spoil the story but it's a story for the modern age of storytelling. The book is uplifting especially when you view the intricate fairy pencil drawings and the "glassine" pages intertwined with the paper. When you hold this book you feel more connected to the story due to these "extras" and embossed cover that feels like you are touching an old ancient tree, a very tactile experience. This is a story that can be enjoyed by male or female readers and young or old everyone will take something positive from this book.
