Erasure "Tomorrow's World"

Biography

Following the disbandment of the short-lived synth pop group Yazoo, former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke formed Erasure in 1985 with singer Andy Bell. Like Yaz and Depeche Mode, Erasure were a synth-based group, but they had stronger dance inclinations, as well as a sharper, more accessible sense of pop songcraft, than either of Clarke's previous bands. Furthermore, Erasure had the flamboyantly… Read more in Amazon's Erasure Store

3.0 out of 5 stars Erasure "Unplugged?", 30 Mar 2006

This review is from: Boy (Audio CD)
I am gobsmacked!

To say that I'm an Erasure fan is an understatement!
I own everything Vince and Andy have recorded(including this release and the "acoustic" companion album Union Street),and for the life of me can't work out what happened to the Erasure I know and love!.
I know Vince Clarke needed time out so his partner could have a baby.
Take all the time you need Vince but come back real soon!
This EP will come to be seen as a low point in Erasure's career.
Lacking inspiration and the trademark Erasure sound we are left with a collection of songs stripped back to the bare bones and re-recorded country style.Right down to the twanging guitars.
If I want to listen to country music(which I don't)I'd buy a Keith Urban cd,not Erasure.
Hopefully this phase of Vince and Andy's will run it course real soon and they'll get back to what they do best!
3 Stars is very generous,I just couldn't find it in my heart to give Erasure any less than average.Maybe there will be someone out there who likes the new direction.I for one don't.
Come on Erasure, how about "A Little Respect" for your fans!
Buy with caution!

5.0 out of 5 stars Erasure Are Back - But with no new material sadly..., 22 Mar 2006

So here we are, Erasure's comeback from their fantastic 2005 album 'Nightbird'. ''Boy!'' is the first single taken from their new forthcoming album 'Union Street' which is to be released in April.
But what about Boy? Well, before I start, this single is an old album track taken from Erasure's 1997 album 'Cowboy'. In fact the whole of the new album 'Union Street' is full of Erasure's old album tracks which have been given something of an acoustic makeover with new vocals from Andy Bell.
The results are fantastic as ever and as a die hard Erasure fan I love it, but I don't think 'Boy' is good enough to release as a single. Don't get me wrong Boy is a terrific ballad (one of Erasure's best in fact), but hardly a hit single.
But for quality in terms of the acoustic instruments and improved vocals, Boy definatley without a doubt deserves a 5 out of 5 as does ALL of Erasure's songs and albums!
The saving grace has to be that Boy is a 4 track EP which features another old Erasure album track as the first B side 'Cry So Easy' taken from Erasure's first album 'Wonderland' from 1985. The next song is 'I Bet Your Mad At Me' which is from Erasure's 2005 album 'Nightbird' which is a live recording especially made for the BBC and the fourth and final track is Jaques Cousteau an intstrumental track which is good but probably not the best instrumental tracks from the master of synth Vince Clarke.
All in all though, Boy is a great song and I'm very sure everyone will love it. Go out and buy it, you won't be disapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Acoustic Erasure, 22 Mar 2006
By DAJ - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Boy (Audio CD)
"Boy" is the lead-off track from the new Erasure acoustic album "Union Street," to be released in April. This EP contains other acoustic tracks not included on the album, and a new ambient synth piece from Vince Clark. "Boy" (not to be confused with the old Book of Love club hit) is reworking of the 1997 original, and seems as if it had been written with this new arrangement in mind. The gentle guitars allow Andy Bell an unobtrusive backing on which to work his vocal magic--the standout track on this EP.

This EP will not be released on CD in the US, only via download, so if you want the physical object, you need to buy this import.

"Cry So Easy" has the original 1985 vocals paired with new instrumentation--this is why it was not included on the album, which includes all new vocals.

"I Bet You're Mad At Me" is taken from a BBC radio session from 2005.

"Jacques Cousteau" is the ambient piece.

All in all, a must have for Erasure fans. Can't wait for the album!
