This is a great album of modern americana, each of the songs has great hooks and lyrics. John Cale's production has a crisp edginess to it which makes the most of Escovedos vocals and lyrics and lifts the music above the ordinary. Several tracks feature the raspy viola of Mr Cale himself, which it is always good to hear. Some of the songs/production work echo Cale's last but one album, 'Hobosapiens', but that is praise from me, I would also give that work four stars. Commended.
