Great to hear the Ducks again,

This review is from: Box of Shorts (Audio CD)
A wonderful surprise to see the Ducks reformed and releasing new material. I expected to be disappointed, but to my relief was not at all. In case you don't know Ducks Deluxe were a pub rock band from the mid seventies and were one of the best live bands you could hope to see. Their first album is a masterpiece and every home should have a copy. Sean Tyla was always underrated as a songwriter and a frontman and these songs show he has not lost none of his abilities. The songs on this release fit in well with the Ducks' heritage. Greatly recommended.

The Ducks Waddle Back!,

Sounds a bit more relaxed than the first 2 Ducks Deluxe albums.
Track 1, Diesel Heart, is more than a little reminisant of Sea Cruise but a great track non the less. I couldn't stop thinking of recent albums by John Fogerty whilst listening to this CD but as he's also in peak form at present that is meant as a big compliment. (nb Anyone reading this that doesn't already own a copy of Revival by John Fogerty rectify immedialety, you won't be disappointed). In fact the second track, Tremelo Bay, would have fitted nicely on Fogerty's last album. 'Dig It Deep' has a bit of a country rock sound to it, but still unmistakenly Sean Tyler. The Country Rock reference shouldn't really come as a great surprise because the Pub Rock bands of the early 70's relied heavily on a cross between Rock 'n' Roll and Country Rock so it is very much a return to the roots before Punk raised it's head and pinched some gems from the scene. Not a duff track in sight but a great pity that it's only 23 minutes long. More an EP than LP but still a very welcome addition to my collection.

Do yourself a favour and check it out!
An awesome taster, released as the band are on tour again. Brilliant brightness in the musical firmament. Fantastic return from the Ducks - Sean continues to write evocative music and Martin is still the Master of the Stratocaster. If you are even curious about this band you loved back then, just click buy it now - you wont be disappointed. Oh and add Somestacks to your order whilst you are at it.
