5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific.. 9 Aug 2013

This is the second book in the series, we find Linnet in Hollywood co-chairing an arbitration, with her vampire boss David - the dispute? do the Alfar (elves) have more of an advantage when going for acting parts within the film industry. Add that some Alfar appear to be going on a killing spree, things in tinsel town are tense.
What I love about this series is that it is not one dimensional, it has layers and I like layers, her inner dialogue, quick thinking and observations had me both chuckling and just wanting more. I especially liked the working relationship with David, although not always comfortable you actually see the rapport and respect growing.
PB does not romanticise the 'Powers' , what a refreshing change! you see their mistakes, vulnerabilities and flaws, with mini plots going on around the main drama, I was not bored.
Add an excellent plot, this is no run of the mill fantasy. I have given 5 stars because of how much I enjoyed the story and varied characters any niggles where washed away.. It real helped me escape for a few hours, great entertainment and narration. Now hurry up PB and bring out the next one..

I would start with 'This Case is Gonna Kill Me' which is the first in the series, which starts off with Linnets first case.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story and main character, but needs better editing 18 Aug 2013
By Nicole C - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This book, and the first in this series, were good reads, running in the middle of the pack in this somewhat saturated and ever-growing genre. Linnet is a clever character, but the dialog gets a little stilted. The high number of typos and editing errors (I stopped counting after 10) were distracting.

4.0 out of 5 stars BOX OFFICE POISON follows Linnet and David to LA 16 Aug 2013
By Urban Fantasy Investigations - Published on Amazon.com
BOX OFFICE POISON follows Linnet and David to LA where they are to arbitrate over a case between human and Alfar actors. She ends up having to solve a mystery on the outskirts of the case without compromising her position as an impartial arbitrator while dodging killers while she is at it.

Linnet caught my eye in THIS CASE IS GONNA KILL ME. Starting off a tad boring she quickly had me wondering what could possibly happen to her next. She has a lucky streak when it comes to trouble. She dodges death many times. She seems to surpass everyone's expectations and catch the attention of power players at every turn. I thought I would be sad still that John was stuck in Fae. Linnet seems just as determined to get him out but she isn't consumed by the need. I ended up being OK with that. I really liked David. He is nothing like the other vampires and seems to genuinely care about what happens to Linnet on top of that. There is some chemistry there between the two and I am interested in seeing it explored more. Vento and his owner continue to be a mystery. They are turning out o be pretty big players in the storyline but I still have no clue what their true role is or who they might really be. I know for sure that they are both there to protect Linnet, I just don't know why.

I have had fun with both books in this series. The characters are interesting and I enjoy the legal parts of the plot. The action is always engaging to me. The humor keeps me laughing and there tends to be a lot of emotions throughout the story. I really like how each book has a main storyline that is wrapped up by the end of the book. No waiting to see a resolution or huge cliff hangers to have to ponder over. You are still left wanting to read the next book but you are satisfied.
5.0 out of 5 stars good read 6 Jun 2014

about the seller: this book was as described and promptly delivered. about this book: i loved her first novel and this continues in the same vein. i would recommend this as an excellent beach-burner or detox book; if you've had too much tragic, hard core reading lately, pick up this author!
5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining entry in the Urban Fantasy/Mystery Genre 13 April 2014
By Kathryn A. Hynes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After Reading "This Case Will Kill Me," Bornikova's first book, I was delighted to find this sequel. Her main character is interesting, as is the setting, a current era variation on the trope of Vampires, Werewolves and Elves exist among us. The Powers here revealed themselves in the 1980s, and Linnet was fostered in a Vampire household. She is now a young lawyer, in a Vampire lead law firm. This book is about the stresses on actors and producers in Hollywood where Elves frequently get all the best parts. Are they using glamour to do so. Clever premise and well explored.
4.0 out of 5 stars the second 4 Feb 2014

Book in the series and I'm ready for the next albeit it is not ready for me. The story is tight, characters well drawn and always the twist and surprises. The editing could be better.
