Product Description

Eddie Murphy triple bill. In 'Bowfinger' (1999), Bobby Bowfinger (Steve Martin) is Hollywood's least successful director. He figures that the only way to boost his flagging reputation is to make a film with megastar Kit Ramsey (Murphy). However, the only way to get Kit into the movie is to film him surreptitiously, while actors approach him and say their lines. Bowfinger also stumbles upon Kit's movie buff brother Jeff (Murphy again), whom he convinces to impersonate his befuddled brother. Frank Oz directs from Steve Martin's original script. 'The Nutty Professor' is a remake of the 1963 film written by Jerry Lewis and Bill Richmond. Sherman Klump (Murphy) is a shy, overweight chemistry professor who invents a slimming formula which transforms him into the svelte, fast-talking Buddy Love. He can now date his colleague Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett), but when Buddy starts to take over, Sherman risks being lost forever. Murphy plays Sherman, Buddy and five other roles in the film that revitalised his comedy career. In 'Life' (1999), set in the 1930s deep South, conman Ray Gibson (Murphy) teams up with sober bank clerk Claude Banks (Martin Lawrence) when it transpires that both of them owe money to gang boss Spanky Johnson. Sent to Mississippi to collect some bootleg liquor, the pair are framed by the local sheriff for his murder of card-sharp Winston Hancock, and are subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment.

Bowfinger sucks. I tried watching it three times and I kept falling asleep, why you ask yourself, becoz it's boring, too much of a good thing spells trouble and I feel that Mssr's Martin & Murphy are just trying to cash in on their names and not their talent. I didn't like Steve Martin's work much until he gave that knockout punch performance in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" playing alongside Michael Caine. Eddy Murphy was always a favourite until recently. "Life" should have got the death sentence before going into production, it's clearly not one of those box-office successes that brings a whole new life to the cinema or the glamour that was once Holliwood. Nothing pivital rests in the balance of this film's success, Thank God, the "End Of Days" could come and go as with a whisp of air gently caressing your brow in the middle of a hurricane. Eddy's rendition of "The Nutty Pro." and his Co-Co stars, wink wink, a knods as good as a wink to a blind bat, wink wink. I like Eddy's take on the Professor but I'm "Old-School I'm afraid, Fred McMurrey had this character down to a T as far as I'm concerned. Eddy's style is good but a little repetitive for my taste at times and this is one time too many really. The film doesn't really call for attitude, it's a much more gentile a story than to be treated this way. It's a great shame that attitude is used for all characters, especially when it isn't called for, stop going over the top with your performances please Eddy, you're better, or should I say greater than that!
