Bouquet of Barbed Wire is a riveting psychological thriller based on Andrea Newman's taboo busting 1969 novel. Having just watched the 1976 version I am apalled that this attempt at a remake was ever made. In the original series when Prue was hit by her husband I was shocked to find myself thinking I could have done the same. Prue was spoilt and selfish and overpoweringly irritating. Gavin (the husband) was quite likeable and this is what made Prue's fathers obsession with her and his hatred for Gavin so disturbing. This is lost in the 2010 version because Prue is too nice and Gavin obnoxious beyiond belief. Any father would want his daughter back from such a marriage, and therefore the wonderful creepy father/daughter relationship that I was expecting did not come across.
This is just one example, I could go on....but I won't. Wait for the rerelease of the 70's version and watch that tale instead.

What a disappointment, not a patch on the original, the third episode was okay, but the first two was so boring, if you want to see the best version, then buy the original, as Frank Finlay and Susan Penhaligon were brilliant. Don't waste your money on this version. A big thumbs down.....

There is not much I can say that has not already been said about this appalling waste of advertising revenue. The original was amazing, charged with emotion which was cleverly under-stated. Fast forward to this sorry remake where most of the characters were so wooden they'd have been better cast as planks on DIY SOS! If this was 'method' acting - it's time they tried another method as this one didn't work on any level.

Bizarre
This is supposedly a remake or re-imagining of a controversial novel which was previously filmed in the 1970's. Though I have not seen the original, I have heard the plot. Read more
