Product Description

HOW TO CREATE CONTAINER GARDENS OF VEGETABLES, HERBS, FRUITS, AND EDIBLE FLOWERS With few exceptions - such as corn and pumpkins - everything edible that's grown in a traditional garden can be raised in a container. And with only one exception - watering - container gardening is a whole lot easier. Beginning with the down-to-earth basics of soil, sun and water, fertilizer, seeds and propagation, THE BOUNTIFUL CONTAINER is an extradordinary complete, plant-by-plant guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on vegetable container gardening, 24 Jan 2008
By P. Bessa - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
THis is really good book.
I must say it. I gave it five stars but there is only a low point.
I am an organic book and the book is not very concerned with environment or things like companion planting or permacultures which other books possess.
Still it is far better, no-nonsense, very partical and colorful, technical and personal at the same time, lenghty book, on every vegetable and while describing several varities for each, its secrets, container requirements, soil depth, watering and light, pests, time of growing, tips, etc...

Heavilly recommended.
I buy it along with edible container gardening, but this one is more pratical and with much more tips and useful advices. The former is more inspiring but lacks a bit this pratical side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good contents, detail information!, 22 Jul 2002
I got this book few weeks, it is a very detail on explain on planting and growing vegetable, herbs, edible flower...even the roses.
At the begining, they show you the basic container gardening basic, the different size and structure of the container.
The table of 4 seasons plant colour are included.
They are honest to tell you the truth on which kind of roses you can and cannot grow in the container.
I have very limit place to grow plants, but I would like to have everything a little bit and at the same time decorative my appartment, this is 100% idea book for me.
If you don't mind about the photos, then this book is 100% 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well organized, 21 Nov 2003
By Valerie Adolph "Garden Godwottery" (Pacific Northwest) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This most readable book was written for “everyone who aspires to have garden-fresh foodstuffs but has no yard in which to grow them”. This is a detailed book about growing herbs and vegetables in containers - there is a chapter each on fruits and edible flowers too. Both writers are experienced growers and standard growing information is not only tailored to container growing, but is supplemented by the experience of two down to earth women who have been there and done that.

Sensibly organized, the book starts with planning a container garden and moves on to basic information such as the tools you’ll need and the pros and cons of different types of containers. But most of the book tells you how to get the best crop from a great long list of vegetables and herbs There are chapters on growing fruit and edible flowers in containers and a decent list of mail order sources for seeds and plants.

I liked the direct, no-nonsense approach of the two writers. They have produced a thorough and thoughtful book, sensibly organized and both readable and knowledgeable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent inspiration, vegetable gardening with minimal space is possible.
I love this book. I bought it several years ago when i lived in a flat. I've read it over and over, and reference bits about specific plants regularly still. Read more
