A Greek Tragedy 6 Jan 2008
By Capri of Isle - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
As a rule I don't like to give a book a bad review, but in my opinion this book had absolutely no redeeming qualities. If, it were possible I would have given this book a half star and that would only go to the "cover art". The hero Damon was an A-1 jerk and a bully and did not believe a word the heroine Charlotte uttered, from the beginning of the book he believed her to be a thief and basically someone beneath is affluent and insanely rich notice, but ironically he was still sexually attracted to her, even though he believed that she had stolen from his mother. And he make's it his business to let her know how he feels and proceeds to torment her throughout the book. If, that's not enough for any sane woman to run 100 miles away from him, Charlotte has a three old daughter with this jerk, that she initially tries to tell him about when she found out she was pregnant, three years prior and of course he didn't want to hear about it and didn't want to have any parts of her when she told him.

Still interested in reading this, Shall I continue....Damon aka mister money bags walks back into her life after she has the baby (who is now 3 years old) in the guise of a major sponsor for an exhibit for the museum Charlotte is working at and proceeds to blackmail her into being his mistress again, he uses his money and position to make her dance to his tune and has the audacity to tell her halfway into the story that he orchestrated the deal for him to sponsor her museum's exhibit in order to exact his revenge on her, for a theft he believes that she committed years earlier. Where was he you ask when she was having his baby? Mind you that Charlotte told him about years earlier and he refused to believe it calling her a liar among other things. When Mr. Wonderful, finally meets his kid after 3 years and purely by accident he acts like the wronged party and wants to step in and claim "his daughter". At this point I had to put the book down I stopped at page 104 or 105.

I could no longer take the stupidity and spinelessness of the heroine Charlotte anymore, for a woman who had her Ph'D and the respect of her colleagues and the love of her child she was sorely lacking in self-esteem, self-respect and common sense. And the hero discussed me, every other word or sentence spewing from his lips was to either call Charlotte a "liar" blatantly or tell her despite how much of a liar, thief or bad parent he thought she was he still had the hot's for her. Spare Me.

I couldn't finish this book, if anyone else did and has a different opinion on it PLEASE share it with me

Tough one to read 16 Oct 2008
By Liz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I cannot believe how painful this book was to read! I love Melanie Milburne's books but the sheer magnitude of the Hero's cruelty and disrespect was tough to stomach. I was sad and disappointed. It is very frustrating and ultimately unsatisfying when the amount of malice, blame, and altogether mistreatment of the no-backbone Heroine goes on through 90 percent of the book and only barely gets a small closure in the last few pages. I wanted to strangle the "person" in the end who finally admitted the truth of the Theft scenario to Charlotte but refused to confess to the family, regardless whether Damon figured it out on his own. There is absolutely no way that I would have sat back quietly and not cleared my name. First off, I wouldn't have married him so quickly to begin with!!! How insulting!! Like he was doing HER a favor. I had to immediately start reading another book right after this one because I needed to blank out the immense feelings of frustration. I obviously got too sucked in and took it too seriously!! (deep breath...)

On the positive side, the love scenes were great. Very enjoyable to read the passion between these two characters.

Sorry Melanie, I'm still a fan though. This one just didn't do it for me...

Really bad story even on HP standards 28 Aug 2010
By scientistreader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Wow, this story is really bad even on HP standards. I know HPs are not exactly on top of the literary pyramid but then I don't read them because they are deep or earth-shaking, I read them because they are a fun way to spend a couple of hours. This book is neither fun nor romantic, the majority of the time I just want to slap the heroine in the face for being a doormat and so TSTL and to choke the hero for being suck a scumbag and tyrant. She not only let the so called hero (term used loosely) blackmailed her into being his mistress she even felt guilty for keeping her daughter from him for the past three 3 years! Even though he is the one to think that she is a thief and a slut and refused to accept her contacts through emails and phone calls! Also, what is up with these HP heroines all melting into jelly and giving into the ridiculous demands from these jerks just because they are so sexually attracted to them. If someone is blackmailing me and threatening me that they'll take away my daughter and put my sister in jail the last thing I would do is thinking of having sex with them, no matter how hot and sexy they are! Blackmail or extortion is ILLEGAL in all civilized countries regardless, a court (at least in the U.S.) or a judge is not likely to give custody to an absentee father no matter how rich they are so I don't know why these heroines are so scared whenever they are threatened by these stupid custody battles. She is supposed to be a PhD but her IQ is more of a 5 year old than someone holding such a degree. As for the so called hero, one word- SCUMBAG. He thought the worst of her, didn't trust her throughout the whole story but supposedly has a revelation in the last three pages of the book that someone else is to be blamed for the theft and then boom problems solved- I don't think so. Looks aren't everything, someone with that kind of attitudes and personalities is very unattractive and ugly in my eyes. I guess I'll stick to Lynne Graham and Michelle Reid for reliable HP reads from now on.
