4.0 out of 5 stars End of the Britons challenge to Roman Britain, 10 Dec 2004
By lordhoot "lordhoot" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Boudica: The British Revolt Against Rome AD 60 (Roman Conquest of Britain) (Paperback)
In this short book (only 152 pages including the index) Graham Webster managed not only to describe in details the revolt of Queen Boadicea, queen of the Iceni Kingdom of east Anglia but also provides archaeological evidences to back up his narrative. The revolt of Queen Boadicea was one of the last major revolts against the Roman rule in England during the era of the Roman Empire. Graham Webster tells an interesting and if not astounding account of how this revolt got started and the pragmatic response of the Roman army reacting to it. There are enough background material in the book to familiarized any reader to this time period. This may be one setback in the book since it won't be until page 86 that the book finally get to the revolt. The book comes with photographs, charts, maps and other illustrations as well.

However, it should be warn that this book isn't for everybody. The text - interesting for me - may sound bit dry for other readers who may not read much about the anicent history. Many readers may find it somewhat boring having to read 85 pages of background material to get to the revolt. Recommended only for people who have a great interest in this subject matter.
