Product Description

Double helping of Bottom performed live on stage. 'Bottom Live' (1993) is the original live version of the popular television comedy series, recorded at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. Richie (Rik Mayall) and flatmate Eddie Hitler's (Adrian Edmondson) relationship (if you could call it that) comes under threat when they receive a solicitor's letter and a package of 'medical goods'. 'The Big Number Two Tour' (1995) is a second live visit to the sordid world of Eddie and Richie (Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayall). The boys become obsessed with the fact that everyone in the world apart from them is having sex (and no-one will let them watch), and set out to do something about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its panto time! 14 Sep 2008

The Bottom live show is in a category of its own. It is not really a play, its not stand-up comedy and its not just a re-hash of the TV programme. The closest thing I can think of is pantomime, albeit a very violent slapstick pantomime.

The stage show makes a virtue of recycling lines and jokes from previous tours with certain set-pieces treated by the audience in the same way as when a band play their biggest hits. The crowd reaction to Pink Floyd playing the first notes of Comfortably Numb is nothing compared to the Bottom audience when the legendary cricket bat makes it's appearance!

Just like a panto the audience play a large part in the performance, with the 'actors' frequently breaking the fourth wall to talk to them directly.

The humour is unsophisticated - but more clever than it pretends to be. Those who are put off by the high levels of weapons-grade swearing and toilet humour are missing out on some serious laughs. Despite having seen all the live DVDs several times I can guarantee that watching them again will have me crying with laughter

5.0 out of 5 stars Double Bottom gets Top! 8 Feb 2013
Hillariously funny, the two at their anarchic, slapstick, cricket bat, frying pan, or just plain fists and the odd kid in the knackers best!
Laughed till it hurt and then I laughed some more!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best bottom dvd you can buy. 5 April 2009
This dvd contains the first two live bottom shows and although the subsequent three shows all have a fair number of laughs, the first two are comfortably the best. Both carry on from the tv shows in being set within Eddie and Richard's grotty flat and have stories that are an extension of the kind of antics they used to get up to on tv, except with the freedom of not having the BBC dictating what they can say and do, there's the added benefit of some good quality adult laughs.

The laughs come at a fast rate and even more so when they forget lines and ad-lib. Although it's often been pointed out that a lot of the ad-libbing is as scripted as the rest, that doesn't matter when it's this funny. Even better, this is one of those rare shows that can be watched again and again and still be found funny. I wore out the video of these two shows and had to buy the dvd, and that's been watched several times.

If you've seen the tv series and liked it, you can't go wrong with this dvd.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bottom's Up 13 Feb 2014
After the success of their hit sitcom Bottom, Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson took the show to 5 live tours from 1993 to 2003.

Bottom Live is set entirely in Richie and Eddie's flat where Richie and Eddie return after a lock in at their local pub The Lamb and Flag and get up to their usual mischief including with some confusion over 15,000. This tour also introduces 'breaking the fourth wall' to the show where Rik and Ade would often forget their lines and interact with the audience. Whether or not this was done on purpose is up for debate, but this is a hilarious show and easily one of the best of the tours overall.

Bottom Live: The Bug Number 2 starts off in the flat where Richie and Eddie prepare for a visit from the Queen in their own typical ways. Unfortunately for them, their schemes lead to them being sent to prison and most of the second act features the duo in their prison cell as their attempt to break out by any means necessary. This tour is a bit of a step down from the first tour, especially as it features a little too much 'breaking of the fourth wall compared to the first tour, but it is still very funny with great slapstick moments.

The 5 stars is for the DVD. It's pant wettingly funny. However, I only give 1 star to the seller. The DVD took 18 days to arrive after being told 5 at the time of ordering. Not good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless classic 28 Jun 2014

However often I watch these shows, I always laugh till I cry. Ade and Rik could just appear on stage and say nothing, and I'd still laugh. My all time favourite comedians, from the early days of Kevin Turvey onwards. Yes, it's silly and rude and slapstick, but also witty and clever. Their timing and delivery is brilliant. If anyone else did the same material it just wouldn't work, it's the pairing of Rik and Ade that makes the magic.
