Book Description

3 Nov 2003
A morally outraged sweetcorn kernel, 'folk these days are disgusting! What the bloody hell happed to morals?', some wrestlers going for a wander before their big finale, a rabbit, a monkey nut, bread, bhagis, bittersweet relationships...Exquisitely and intricately drawn, quirky, surreal and very, very funny, "Both" introduces two new brilliant comic artists to the Bloomsbury list alongside Edward Gorey, Steven Appleby and Glen Baxter.

'Both' is a peach of a book to have kicking around your lounge or bedroom. Both Tom Gauld and Simone Lia contribute some absolute gems to the book, from Gauld's bickering knights living in the middle of nowhere, to Lia's sweetcorn kernel and Fluffy, the rabbit / child who now stars in its own series of comics (part 2 just came out, though at the moment they are only available through the author's website). I've had mine for a few months and when people come round and have to sit waiting for me to find my house keys before going out I normally find them flicking through it and having a good laugh. Can't wait to see more from these guys.

4.0 out of 5 stars a mixed bag 21 Aug 2010

I love Tom Gauld's deadpan comics and it's worth buying this just for his half of the book. He just doesn't publish enough stuff. Unfortunately Simone Lia's half is nowhere near as good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mischeviously Brilliant 31 Oct 2007
By Hayley
Format:Hardcover
I was never a comic or graphic novel reader until I came across Tom Gauld and Simone Lia. This book is brilliantly funny. These two have the courage to draw and write down all of those fleeting thoughts you have in your head, but would never have the guts to tell anyone.

Thoroughly recommended.
