5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Kettle 31 Oct 2011
By Lyndon
I bought this kettle about 3 weeks ago and I have to say I read some of the reviews here and I was a bit sceptical. However, after using it, here's what I think.

The kettle is a standard black colour with a brushed aluminium ring around the top of the kettle and has a soft touch handle. To me it gives it a little bit of a classy image. The base is black with three buttons on the front. Power on/off, temperature control(rocker switch) and keep warm.

You can fill the kettle either through the spout where there is a lime scale filter or through the top of the kettle. The lid of the kettle has a large push button in the centre. Just push it and the lid opens quickly.

The kettle is not particularly fast to boil 1.5 litres of water. I timed it at about 3 minutes and 22 seconds, so it won't set pulses racing. However, this was at the pre set temperature of 100 degrees. But it is adequate for anybody really.

Contrary to some of the poor reviews here, there is no in built lid timer. You can open the lid any time you like. You don't have to wait 5 minutes. press the button and the lid opens. It's a very simple mechanism.

With regard to the keep warm facility. This will only keep the water warm for 30 minutes, presumably to save your electricity bill. What you do is this, you press the on button and then press the keep warm button. All the lights are lit. Once the kettle comes to boil, the water will stay hot for 30 minutes after which the kettle switches off. If you take the kettle off the stand during the keep warm period, the kettle will switch off as well as it thinks you have finished with the keep warm facility. If you want to reinstate keep warm, just turn the kettle on and then press the keep warm again. Simple.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bosch TWK8633GB 4 July 2012
By Reef
After much deliberation using Amazon reviews, Which reports I finally decided to buy based on the criteria I was looking for, fast boil, variable temperatures and looks. We're very pleased that we bought this kettle, its boils so fast I'm hardly ready with my coffee and tea before it's ready, and its quiet too. After reading all the reviews I got all worried about a beep when you turn it on and when it finishes a boil, yes it does beep but its one beep on one beep off. Its not going to disturb you unless your on a very short fuse, if so perhaps you shouldn't be drinking coffee and tea.

Overall it looks good, boils fast, easy to fill, and the outside stays cool when its boiled, and it slots in nicely to the wall. Liking it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really do love this kettle! 1 Aug 2012
By Nibbler
I am a big fan of green teas and have spent the previous couple of years with a thermometer in the top of the kettle! This is ok until you leave the kitchen and then forget that you put the kettle on and come back to clouds of steam...

All now solved due to this. A few points from me:

The temperature feature is just fantastic. 70 80 90 or 100 degrees - good for coffee, fine teas and everyday. I love it.

There is no locking mechanism on the lid, despite what some people say here. You can easily open this whenever you want. You just push the big button in the middle and the lid pops up. Push it down and it snaps shut.

It looks really good - we've had ours for about six months now and with a quick wipe it looks the biz. The black fits the black theme in our kitchen, but if it didn't it would probably still look fine.

It's build quality is really excellent - the feel is solid like it's made from quality stuff.

I like that you can see how much water you have put in - although the Germans obviously have smaller cups than us! This means that we have started to heat only what we need, thus saving money I hope.

The only thing I don't like is that the 'beep' when you turn it on and when it turns off, is quite loud - sneaking down for a horlicks in the middle of the night is harder now because everyone knows you're up.

Would I buy it again? Yes for sure. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes definitely. Is it worth the price? You get what you pay for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful to disastrous in a few weeks 10 July 2012
I agreed with all the 5-star reviews - at first.
Then the lid problem started, as reported widely (lid doesn't open - sporadic fault). But I put up with that.
However, the latest fault merits a return and a strong letter. The base has become always-on. First I knew of it was when the kettle didn't switch off and I found the kitchen saturated with steam. The base had beeped and 'switched off' but remained live. If someone was to put the kettle tidily back on the base now, it would boil to empty and then keep heating. DANGEROUS. It hasn't had any mis-use or water in the base.
This raises a question of design safety. It seems the 'off' function must be within the base, which measures when the desired temperature has been reached. Other kettles have an 'off' function within the kettle, operated by the steam. This traditional method seems rather more foolproof, in view of my experience! I have never had a kettle as faulty as this, in several decades of (often cheap) kettle-owning.

Incidentally, the matching toaster (which was my main reason for buying the kettle) is not impressive either. The on-off symbol has almost rubbed off the switch already, and anyway it's annoyingly unnecessary - you have to remember to switch it off after toasting, which no other toaster has found necessary. The electronic 'stop' switch is equally silly as you could just as well press the 'off' switch or even lift the lever! The slots are significantly less wide than my last toaster and restrict the bread used.

I'm surprised at Bosch. Weak design and weak functionality - not what I'd expect.

Big, a bit plastic looking and a really loud bleep before and after boiling... really unnecessary. Boiling is noisy too. Not as good as the matching toaster
