This kettle is far from cheap, but I wanted a temperature control kettle (for making coffee at 80C) and one thing or another about all the other options put me off. I took a risk with this one since it was new and not yet reviewed, hoping that any problems with previous models would have been ironed out in the new one.

So far, so good. I'm really pleased with the purchase, even though it was a bit more money on a kettle than I really wanted to pay.

The design seems quite different to previous models, since all the controls are in the kettle itself, and at the top, rather than in the base. The base simply supplies power, as far as I can see. Speaking of the base, it's entirely circular and gives you full 360 movement.

The kettle is big and sturdy, with a good, thick, solid handle. The outside gets slightly warm but does not seem to get boiling hot after use. (Though you should always be cautious, of course.) The base of the kettle appears to be metal, hiding a concealed heating element, while the main chamber walls are plastic. Inside and near bottom, on one of the sides, is a small metal thermometer poking out.

Controls are on the top, and very easy to use. The on/off button starts it going (or stops it if it already is), and when it is on you can push the temperature up/down buttons at any time to select one of the four temperatures to stop at: 70, 80, 90 or 100 degrees C.

The selected temperature will flash until it is reached. As the water heats up, the temperature lights turn on solid when they are reached. This acts a bit like a progress bar, which might seem gimmicky, but it's actually very useful if someone has used the kettle before you as it lets you know the water is already at (or above) the temperature you want.

After my 12 year love affair with my sleek and stylish ever-so-expensive Siemens Porsche Mark 1 toaster and kettle combo ended, after they busted from wear and tear, I had to find replacements for them. That proved harder than I thought: kettles (and toasters) either looked bad and performed OKish but look cheap and nasty; looked good and attracted poor reviews; looked bad and attracted good reviews, or looked good with good reviews but cost a king's ransom. Then I came across this kettle, which seemed to tick all the right boxes. I have had it a few weeks now and it not only looks stylish, it is technically advanced too: lightweight empty and full; you can heat water to different temperatures 70 (white tea) 80 (green, herbal teas) 90 (coffee) 100 (regular cuppa); it has a handy 'keep warm' function that keeps heated water at a constant temperature for 30 mins without having to repeat the boiling up process over again - to save energy. The power cord can be coiled underneath the base plate so as not to trail across countertops. It comes fitted with a regular UK three pin plug. On the downside, it is a big kettle. Therefore, if you are low on kitchen counter space this might not be the best choice for you. Overall, this Bosch is a good buy and is reassuringly good quality and should last a good few years too. I have decided to team my new 'water baby' with a sleek two slot single slice width black Graef toaster to match it, which I have also reviewed on Amazon.

For anyone concerned about this, I wanted to mention that the inside of this kettle is made of plastic. It's hard to tell due to the stainless steel effect top. Had to return our one when we discovered this - it's not what we were looking for. Didn't use the kettle so cannot comment on any other aspect. If the plastic inside doesn't bother you then fine - but if you don't want to boil your water in plastic then I hope this info will be helpful to you and I recommend you look for a different kettle.

Stylish, sturdy kettle with a reassuring weightiness to it. You can choose from three temperatures which is useful if you don't need the water to reach boiling point. It's fast and quiet and looks great in my modern kitchen. Easy to fill, lift and pour. Excellent piece of kit.

Bought to match the Bosch toaster, the design is attractive and the construction robust. The audible warning that water is boiled has proved more useful than I thought while the insulated trunk prevents burns. Like the toaster it is larger than its predecessor but makes an attractive addition to my kitchen.

We were somewhat taken aback by this large portly kettle, but are now admiring it's features. A kettle just has to heat the water and not leak - a problem with some like our last one. The facility to change the required temperature setting is novel, but especially useful for real coffee making, and presumably energy saving. Also the peeping to announce switching off is useful. It is not as sleek as the old one, but is an impressive addition to our kitchen. The water level meter is shielded by the handle which is a minor issue. The cost was a bit eye watering, but if it keeps going it will repay us. So it is too early to give it a full 5 points, but may well earn that in due course.

We were looking for a quality kettle for a little while before buying this one. We were fed up of the cut price stuff available in supermarkets etc. The reviews for this product do highlight some issues which did put us off, but in the end we went for it and we're glad that we did. We've owned the product for about 3 months now and we haven't found anything that we don't like with it; even the beep!
